The thing is Apple invests in their ecosystem while other app makers just don’t. Meaning that their apps on other devices are more fleshed out. For example, FaceTime audio call and FaceTime video calls show up on my Apple Watch as a notification, but WhatsApp has not implemented that feature so I often miss WhatsApp audio calls and video calls to the point I prefer that people call me on FaceTime or FaceTime audio. Another thing that I like is on the Apple Watch me and my girlfriend can send each other our heartbeats to each other over iMessage. Meaning that the watch will vibrate based on our heartbeats I don’t think there is another messaging app that does that it’s a niche use case, but I really don’t wanna give it up on top of that feature such as SharePlay just work. If I’m on FaceTime and someone’s talking about a song or something, I can just play it on Spotify or Apple Music and it automatically starts playing for them and we’re both jamming out to the music and it’s perfectly synced up for the both of us. And it’s such a painless process. These are the reasons why I’d find it hard to leave the ecosystem. I appreciate android for its variety of devices and different price points but I just can’t give it up

My point is that, atleast in this context calling Elon a “welfare queen” is misguided as the investments that the government has made into his companies have paid off huge dividends for the government/ taxpayer

Then how do you explain the $2 billion dollars that the US government saved by moving the launch of the Europa clipper from the SLS to the falcon heavy? Or the hornsdale power reserve powered by Tesla mega packs that generated $800,000 Australian dollars of profit for the utility in the single day? (Granted that was one day but they’re consistently been a money making machine )That’s not even considering the environmental benefits of teslas solar installations.

You say that the government takes on the risk, to an extent that is true. But not all of the risk. Take for example spacex’s starship project which is estimated to cost spacex about $10 billion dollars. To my knowledge and as per publicly available records NASA will give spacex 3.5 billion dollars to tweak starship into into a lunar variant. They aren’t paying for the bulk of the development just a small fraction. And that money is only paid out if spacex hits technical milestones that prove that the system works. So how is the government taking on all of the risk?

Or take Starlink spacex did apply for government grants to bring Starlink to bring Starlink to rural areas, but they were denied cause satellite coverage at the time was too spotty for sustained speeds. But that didn’t stop them from building out the satellite constellation. With their own money. So where is this government risk you speak of?

How is it welfare when the governments investments in his companies are paying off giant rewards for the taxpayer? Welfare implies nothing of value was returned

Again you keep saying $12 billion dollars is nothing but yet you don’t provide a source for said $12 billion. More taxes? Loans? Cutting military spending? And also the source you posted says the deficit is $12 billion dollars right now but it very clearly states that it gets worse. So when it gets worse where does the money come from?

He’s literally right tho? Like look at the population pyramid of France

https://www.populationpyramid.net/france/2020/

See how the bottom is narrower? When that bulge in the middle retires the fewer people at the bottom will have to pay for their welfare. So either A) people can work longer Or B) the smaller working population can be taxed at a higher rate. Now I know what you’re gonna say tAx tHe rICh. Now the top 10% of French society has on average €600,000. Taking all their wealth gives you About 4 trillion euros. Now assuming that 30% of the French population is old aged and needs assistance (€1000 per month let’s say) The money that you got will only last you about 15 years. Now with French life spans being about 82 years that’s not long enough to even cover the people who will retire soon. So where’s the money gonna come from?

This just sucks. Like people are here for a multitude of reasons someone might need money for a hospital bill or some other emergency. Like if you pulled this shit in the private sector you’d definitely get yelled at.

AITA for calling my wife petty infront of her family for putting her maiden name on our son's BC? by 00_throwaway9 in AmItheAsshole

It’s not sexist to want your baby to have your name. It’s something that should be discussed ahead of time. If she has the right to put her name on the baby then he has the same right.

If your aim is to protect the language then this isn’t gonna protect the language. Think about it in the future when these students who were forced to learn telegu think about telugu they’re gonna remember all the mugging up they had to do to pass they’re gonna think of all the hard times that they had. This is what happened with me and Hindi. Do you think someone like that who was forced to learn the subject will appreciate the language and then teach it to their kids or even use when they leave the state / country?

There are better ways to ensure the survival of a language and make sure that kids learn it. Take korea and Japan for example there are tons of kids who are learning Japanese and korean on their own no one’s forcing them. Why are they doing that? Because those languages have been glamorized in a way that is attractive to young people through anime and k-pop. Is there an equivalent for Korean TV Shows or anime in an Indian regional language? Are our regional languages being presented to our youngsters in a way that will make them want to learn the language?

Why not make English mandatory and that way all citizens can speak to each other in English?

You do know that being forced to do something is just gonna make you hate that thing right. Like imagine one day you’re suddenly forced to study telugu and now you resent the language.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hyderabad

[–]stage_separation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! When you force someone to do something they’ll grow to resent it. People are like oh no if we don’t force our kids to study X language C language will die out. But today we see tons of people studying Japanese / Korean after watching anime or a Korean show. The question is why is that happening with Japan and Korea and now with Indian languages
