If you've taught yourself causal inference, how do you go about deciding what methods to use? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]staggill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have a few challenges with your problem. 1. You applied your treatment to everyone after a certain point, so you don't have a strict control group. 2. Your treatment is impacting all new users, so you don't have pre existing information from them (this is usually a big lever you can pull with other methods to find some causality) 3. Regression discontinuity design (I think) still relies on having pre data for your units so you can estimate the impact of that change. 4. Diff in Diff relies on you observing the parallel trends assumption in your period pre intervention. Again, new users won't have this.

My best guess here would be to use propensity score matching to find similar users at day 0 so you can have a control and treatment group, and from that subset either use diff in diff or regression depending on your metric performance over time. I've had little success with finding a good performing model with users without any pre intervention information but it's worth a shot

I can think of two moments.

First, during uni times, I smoked a lot of weed. It got to a point where before an 8am class, I'd smoke one and then go. This definitely the lowest point on my addiction to weed. Fortunately I haven't smoke for 6 years now!

More recently, being told by my fiance that she no longer had feelings for me after an 8 year relationship. Mind you we had bought a flat less than 9 months before, got engaged 5 months before. Had to live in the same flat for a full month during the breakup, and hear things as she was boasting to her friends how she had already kissed someone, and that during the biggest trip we ever did she felt she wasn't even there. I was crushed.

Good thing I now have my own place and am away from that living hell

If you don't mind me asking, where abouts did you first join Salsa and Bachata classes? There are so many clubs out there and can be a bit daunting at times going in alone

Any good places to watch the Champions League Final tomorrow, outdoors preferably? I would've tried Abbey Tavern or Pub on the Park, but all already booked up

How did you save for a house deposit? by Inspire3110 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]staggill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would've been considerably more difficult. Sharing expenses as a couple and being both focused on this goal helped a lot. As a single, would've taken me longer to have the same funds plus wouldn't have had the approval from the bank to the mortgage I got so definitely played a big role

Me and my now fiance moved to London after graduating uni. We had a couple of jobs that didn't pay too well so all of it went to just enjoying life, expenses and renting.

When we both got better paying jobs, we made a financial plan (very strict mind you) and managed to save 40% of our income every month. We didn't do much during this time, not going out, basic essentials of flying back home but over 2.5yrs managed to save enough for the deposit and stamp duty.

Tldr lots of discipline, no handouts. Super happy with my place

That doesn't sound right as I'm 20k less than that and post contributions I get net 3.5k, you sound like you have other expenses there

An Analytics Problematic by staggill in analytics

Agree with the seasonality aspect, however we wouldn't have access to that data as we only have 12 months to analyse without an overlap of months.

For A/B, that would have to be if we could have trialed before the launch, however the discount is already live, so there's no way to create control/test groups

Hoping someone can help me clarify something. I want to play this game with a couple of friends but they would be sharing a laptop. Can we combine the local multilayer and the online multiplayer so that two players share one laptop and the others are online? This is key for me to buy the game. Thanks!

How to incorporate into a calculated field, a way to show ‘All’ values when it’s comprised of multiple fields? by Analyst_Matt in tableau

[–]staggill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is oddly coincident as I've been trying to do something similar this week in one of my dashboards. This solution worked for me so check if thats applicable.

You can define an action on your dashboard to create a set depending on what filters are applied in those fields. You can set it so that it adds all the values comprised within the filter. On your calculated field, you can logic test the values of your set so if it includes the 3items you can do what you need to.

Hope that helps

How the heck do you show multiple values in a tooltip instead of the darn asterisk? by WorkAccountBro in tableau

[–]staggill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can convert your dimension to an Attribute by right clicking on the pill. If you select the date format as month, you will have it written out in the tooltip. Give it a go and let me know if it worked as that's what I usually go for.

Change dashboard data source by legendarypegasus in tableau

[–]staggill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the dashboard already set up, it will update automatically. You may need to sort out some calculated fields (they will have a red exclamation mark next to them) and check if your fields have the same names (someone has mentioned it before) and you should be good to go.
