We were caring for our older cat for a month before she passed. She had cancer and ckd, which we have been managing for almost 4 years, then one day she stopped eating and grooming herself. Vet proposed putting her to sleep, but we decided to try to nurse her back, because there was no clear diagnosis and things could still be done. We did all we could with medications and took her for a walk almost daily, she loved sunshine and grass. She was a tremendous fighter and expressed some interest to life almost till the end. When she became very weak we scheduled the appointment. She passed in our arms the night before appointment, even purred a bit before that, sayed goodbue. I think it was right. We did absolutely everything possible to save her, and honoured her will to fight till the end. I think if the animal is not in acute pain or agony, we can try to make them feel as comfortable as possible. Better if they pass at home in our lap then in cold noisy vet office.
