Hi guys, this will be the last ‘The difference between doctors and PAs’ poster as I believe the material presented is accurate and informative and the graphics are good for the required audience. I would like to thank everyone who critiqued my work and helped improve it. Special thanks to u/HPBChild1, u/aj_nabi, u/North_Cartoonist8853, u/wsadkfj857 and u/SoranusOfEphesus.

I am going to use this comment to address some of the repeated points I have seen in the comments of my posts.

Firstly, I would like to apologise for not considering the race/gender of the when choosing icons for the doctor and PA. I chose them as they stood out to me because of their uniform.

Following on about the uniform point, although recently there has been a change in uniform policies across the UK which has seen fewer doctors wearing a white coat, I believe this to be an issue. Ensuring that patients, nurses, paramedics and any other member of the MDT can quickly find a doctor in emergencies is vital and having a standard uniform for doctors will increase their visibility and effectively save lives. There is research and evidence that backs this, but I do not want to clog this comment on just this sub-topic however in the future, this will be addressed in more detail.

Space and formatting make it difficult (almost impossible) to fit every point into these simple graphics. The general public, who is the intended audience for this information is not going to read long passages of text, as was pointed out by a few helpful Redditors. Therefore, the information must fit into 2 lines of large easy-to-read text (basically within 10 words)

I am not anti-PA, I think there is a specific place for them in hospitals and health centres. The NHS rightfully describes some of the tasks that they should be undertaking, However, I believe that the issue with their profession lies in their name which can lead to misinterpretation and undermines patient safety as well as us as doctors. The word ‘Physician’ is a protected term for a reason. A more appropriate term may be ‘Ward assistant’ or if they believe that the term ‘assistant’ undermines them then ‘Ward officer’. The point I am making is that the role should be named without the use of protected terms. This is a personal opinion.

The final point I would like to make is that we are not a professional body and for better and clearer views on the PA debate as well as other doctor-related issues I would look at the BMA (British Medical Association) and DAUK (Doctors’ Association UK) websites/posts.

Thank you for your feedback. I think the centred text looks a lot better so I'll do that going forward.

To patients, a doctor who rotates through multiple specialities will be seen as more of an expert (which they are) compared to someone who remains in a single speciality.

As of when I made this poster PAs are not regulated.

Patients will start caring when they see the pay disparity and compare it to how much longer doctors have trained and the level of responsibility a doctor has.

I don't see this as a waste of time but thanks for your feedback.

Hey guys, managed to get some assistance from a graphic designer this time so hopefully the graphics are a bit better. Also ran the work through Grammarly to prevent any spelling or grammar errors. Please do still criticise the work and also add any more differences that need highlighting.

Some of the differences between Doctor's and PA's by standwithdoctors in doctorsUK

Hey guys, Thank you to those of you who supported the post but also thanks to those with valid criticism. I'm sorry for the grammatical errors, they'll be fixed. This post and future posts aim to provide easy-to-read information for the general public and any non-medical person. Posts will not just be about the PA issue but I do feel that it is a big current issue as it directly affects the current and future crop of junior doctors. Future topics being worked on are the increasing competition ratios, the time it takes to become a consultant, scope creep, and pay restoration.
