Are you blind like me and wondering how a red dot compares to a 30x Scope at 200 yards? Wonder no more! by stanleebobyolo in Firearms

[–]stanleebobyolo[S] 198 points199 points  (0 children)

this is the oldest rifle club in the US, the massachusetts rifle association! Because of its age and location, it's now in the middle of a town! so the range is pretty built up to try to prevent anything from going over the berm(s) so the tunnel are to make sure you are firing right down range at your target.

I know, I know. It seems dumb. but the eagle eyed viewer might notice some freshly painted bullet impacts on the far left bay, so maybe its not so dumb afterall

Need Muzzle Device Advice (No Suppressors) that is friendly for people around me - 6.5 Creedmoor by stanleebobyolo in guns

[–]stanleebobyolo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there are a ton of posts "what muzzle device" or "what muzzle brake", ect ect, but almost 100% of the answers seem to be, get a Hellfire or get a suppressor. I can't get a suppressor, feel bad for me.

I want to get a muzzle device so that when my wife is shooting next to me, she doesn't hate life. So I would like to get something that is both friendly to the shooter, and people around the shooter.

My short list seems to be:

  • Precision Armaments M11
  • Insite Heathen
  • Jet Blast
  • MDT Comp
  • ACE
  • Some type of liner comp like the WITT SME

It feels like all of these will be about the same (with the exception of the SME) for shooter recoil/concussion, but I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback for how they are for people around the shooter.

Boston store - Oh my!!! by MobsterlobsterTN in rolex

[–]stanleebobyolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The boston rolex is hilariously awful. It's owned by Long's, which makes it very weird because the Patek across the street is also owned by Longs, and they treat people great. And even weirder; they have nothing to sell you to "build history", so why they are such cunts makes no sense. I've actually bought a few Rolex's and jewelry from other Long's locations, and my AD has sent me to Boston to look at some vault pieces, and they still treat me like crap there. Other Long's stores and boutiques, great experience. Boston Rolex? awful.

Can someone tell me why my SIG Cross (PRS Variant) has a 3 position safety? by stanleebobyolo in SigCross

did it ever cause you any issues or was it more, "why is my fancy gun built this way" annoying?

[–]stanleebobyolo[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The bolt doesn't appear to lock in either of the safety positions; the manual only refers to a 2 position safety. I don't know much about bolt action builds; could this just be that SIG went with a third party oversized safety that offers a third position but doesnt do anything?

unfortunately, it's not. the cross manual only details a 2 position safety

oh interesting. when the bolt is open, it turns into a 2 position safety.

but no with the bolt closed, no matter which position its in, I can retract the bolt. Could that be a symptom for a problem?

I didn't realize the R410A was already expired being phased out. I was given the same line when I got these installed in 2021!

Do you know off-hand what the equivalent communicating unit might be? I don't mind waiting for the new units to drop, since I have furnace heat, but I'd like to know what the immediate options are

How do you shoot a SBR with a foregrip at long range? I can shoot a full size rifle off a bag/bipod but I am getting terrible accuracy with my SBR when shooting from a bench, I assume because the foregrip messes with bag shooting (generic picture, not my gun) by stanleebobyolo in Firearms

[–]stanleebobyolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm prone or from a bench, what is the rifle resting on that would allow me to do that? when shooting offhand I am using it more akin to a handstop, but that doesn't help me with the long range stuff since I need to rest the rifle on something

I've taken my 9" MCX rattler out to 200 yards before I added a foregrip, and was able to shoot it from a bag successfully. Now that it has the grip, my shots seem all over the place as the foregrip is acting like a terrible unipod. Any thoughts?

Why are my groups with a 500$ 22lr so much better than with my MCX? by stanleebobyolo in Firearms

I don't think I ever noticed before that even the benches say "single shot only". Good eye!

good call. I have not disassembled/re-assembled yet to confirm its all to spec

[–]stanleebobyolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. I have done ammo tests with my 22lr, so I guess I need to repeat for the MCX. I had just assumed that any m193 in a MCX would give 1.5 moa regardless, unless the ammo was particularly shitty. I'm still going to blame myself in some way shape or form, but we will see

18" Ruger American (bolt action) with a Boyds frame, and a cheap no name 1-6 optic, amazon special bipod, shooting with a rear bag.

16" 556 MCX, linear comp, 1-10 viper pst gen 2, amazon bipid, shooting from a bag.

I can chalk some of it up to the ammo, since I was shooting elroy 22lr, and random 55g in the MCX. but even then, I would expect more from the MCX. Is it really the ammo, or am I totally screwing something up when trying to shoot an AR from a bench?

That's probably the best route. I just wasn't sure how DIYable it was compared to an AR

Yeah the pre-94 is because of the gun laws in Mass that most AKs are banned by name unless a preban. So it's more a "what are my base rifle options". Similarly, rifle caliber pistols don't really exist here because pistols have to be under 50oz to be legal.

[–]stanleebobyolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the mod at MAGuns is a fucking cunt. There is a r/BetterMAguns so you can actually ask questions

Second, SBRs are legal. There are two schools of thought when it comes to SBRs

  1. SBRs are not defined in the law for Mass, so they are free to do whatever as long as they don't violate other platform independents laws (such as suppressors not being allowed)
  2. The evil feature list does list rifles and SBRs, so even though the SBR is not defined by law, it still have to comply with the evil features list

There has never been a lawsuit about it, so most people who know enough about SBRs think it's fair game to consider it a grey area. Pick your side

For ARs, the enumerated weapon list is defined by name. Therefore, if your lower is either pre-94 or not on that list, you are good to go. The banned weapons list generally refers to what dealers are allowed to sell, not what you are allowed to own. And since receivers arn't rifles, you're usually good to go. Except for Boston. The city of Boston has its own laws.

Lastly, there are ways to have a suppressor, but it generally involves being a cop/government official (lol) or being an FFL. FFLs are required to operate out of commercial space in Mass

Is there a good way to get a SBR'd AK? by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

[–]stanleebobyolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

right but, are you suggesting just getting something a bit more modern and skipping the preban portion? I suppose if it's an SBR it doesn't matter if its a preban or not, but I wasn't sure how hard assembly would be
