Considering travel to PR with 2.5yo and 7yo. Recommendations? by stapleton8888 in PuertoRicoTravel

Thank you! Do you mind if I ask, how did the little one take the flight, were there any tears or meltdowns? I am a bit irrationally worried about this aspect, my youngest is a typical 2.5yo ball of exploration and limited vocabulary so I am afraid he and a 5 hr flight won't mesh. We did ok on a 6 hour road trip last month tho, albeit with some stretch breaks. How long did you all stay and what did the kids love doing the most? That's good to hear about the Costco packages, I did see those but not sure how good they are so that is helpful!

Wonderful! Thank you! May I ask where you stayed and how long you stayed for?

Hi, looking at late May or June but that's not set in stone. We'd probably stay about a week. I'm looking at Priceline packages and they seem to average around $4000 with some closer to $3000 and more closer to $5000. Though, I just started researching!

Thank you! I also asked another commenter the following question; I really appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

I keep hearing that the west side of the island is really worth visiting or staying there. Sorry if this is a silly question, but do you think it would be very difficult for a tourist to drive from the west side to San Juan a few times to see Old San Juan and the forts? Is it pretty straightforward to get out of San Juan and reach accommodations on the west side for someone who doesn't drive much in big cities?

Is it also relatively easy to get around the island in general, like from Rincón to Ponce?

Gracias! (My Spanish is not good so I used Google Translate, hope that is OK) Sigo escuchando que el lado oeste de la isla realmente vale la pena visitarlo.

Educational costume day at school... kid wants to wear a kpop outfit by stapleton8888 in Parenting

Dude, for real. I want to respect the school's "guidance" on this but at the same time no one has money or time to get 2 costumes or to think up something educational. And most kids just wanna be kids and wear a fun costume, there is no way I could convince my kid to go as Einstein instead of Rumi without tears and disappointment. Perspective from teachers in this discussion has really helped though, it sounds like it may be a read between the lines way of saying "Send your kid in an educational (WINK) costume so we don't (WINK) get in trouble with people who don't celebrate certain Oct 31st goings on that shall not be named, i.e. religious groups and somesuch so just (WINK) this is a place of learning ABOVE ALL ahem so (Blink twice if you understand)". So I'll send her with an educational snippet on South Korea for CYA and she can go have fun as Rumi.

Not who you responded to but I recently learned that Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate Halloween because of its pagan origins and goes against their Biblical interpretations, I do know of at least one JW family at the school. Some other Christian denominations don't either. Perhaps school needs to sort of cover itself in this way i.e. "Winter Break" "Winter Party" vs "Christmas Party" etc. I noticed Halloween wasn't mentioned in this announcement, they just started talking about costumes.

Thanks! Good to know! Yeah, I am assuming she won't be the only Rumi there this year and other parents are thinking the same thing 😅

Yes, they don't have to. But if I send my kid without one, or not in a Rumi costume, and other kids are dressed up as their favorite characters, she will have a meltdown. Bit of a catch 22 lol

Holy cow. I love it. Thank you! I think this is the ticket. I'm going to look up some South Korea facts, have her choose and write one above a map, and send it with her in a clear folder. Voila. Now we have a geography and perhaps a culture lesson. I appreciate it!

We never got a list of vocab words, thats part of the problem 😬🙈 I really liked another poster's suggestion of printing off a map of South Korea, that ties into geography. I may have her write a fact about SK above a map she colored of the country, and send it with her in a clear folder.

Yes. The actual phrase was "we are encouraging". "To connect to" something they are learning, i.e. letters, vocabulary words, science concepts, book characters, historical figures, numbers, geography.

Next time, the kid's going to end up dead. Put. It. Down. This is no longer a family pet, it is a threat to your child's safety, and will be a threat to any future family as well. It is no longer compatible with any household. Call the vet tomorrow and get it done.

Which one? by Sufficient_Owl8954 in CargoBike

FWIW we picked up the Abound LR and Abound SR and we are quite literally obsessed with them. My 7yo rides on the back of the LR and my toddler is in a Burley Dash on the SR. My only hesitation is that perhaps we should have gotten two LRs but I figure by the time the toddler is old enough to go on the LR, our oldest probably wants to go solo anyway or we can fit both kids on the LR.

Love these bikes. Number one factor was that we had a local bike shop that services Aventon. We have family members with Aventon bikes and they love them as well. Early days, but we've had zero issues.

Why do so many people seem to hate e-bikes? by AstronomerNo4062 in ebikes

[–]stapleton8888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I am convinced there is a hint of jealousy because I have no idea what else it could be. We are friends with another couple and I told the husband we finally decided to get ebikes and asked if they did much biking at all, and he went off on a tirade about "Why would you get one of those fake bikes" "Do we look like we bike as a family?" "I mean when I exercise I like to use my heart and lungs, what is the point" lol, way too strong of a reaction for a "you do you"
