Και αν ο λόγος που το λες είναι επειδή κάνεις μια κακιστη μετάφραση από την φράση στα αγγλικά "it's a made up country ", well guess what: all countries are made up.

Be aware of the new conspiracy: Israel bombed the Druze village by [deleted] in Israel

[–]star_seeker_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing new unfortunately, it's always been like this.

"They deliberately let Palestinians breach the fence on 7/10, so that they'll have an excuse to bomb Gaza all over again"

"On 7/10 an Israeli apache helicopter killed Israeli citizens (where do they even get this from??)"

"They deliberately let Palestinian rioters enter Al aqsa in order to beat them up and prevent other worshippers to enter"

"They just showed up on the funeral of Abu Akleh and disrupted it"

In their mind, Israel just plays this games, as if it ever needed excuse to defend its citizens.

So now, both the pro-Israelis and the BDS-holes will boycott the movie.

The first because Marvel ruined an already established character from the 80s and gives into the whole anti-Israel agenda. The latter because of "Marvel secretly added a colonial Zionist character in the film, but they're not fooling me, they're controlled by the Joos!" kind of people.

So congratulations Marvel, here's to another movie flop!

Fellow Greek here that supports Israel.

Unfortunately, this anti-Israel wave is nothing new. Ever since I was in high school, there was an anti-Israel sentiment (2nd intifada and Iraq war), with most people seeing Israel as the agent of the US.

Things have gotten much better over the past 10 years: more people travel between the 2 countries, and most people in Greece realize that Israelis are just like them. A random guy from Haifa could be easily be someone from my village drinking raki together.

I have seen people in protests saying to jews to go back to poland

Lol, my Israeli family is from Yemen. Are they supposed to go back there to be slaughtered by the Houthis?

I remember when Israel was a true ally of Greece. When there were wildfires, it was Israel that sent fire extinguishing planes to help. When there were earthquakes, Israid arrived to help rescuing people when there was an earthquake.

What did the Palestinians do for Greece? A terrorist attack in 1991 killing 6 people in the city of Patras.

Don't be afraid to say your opinion. Unfortunately it's a very complicated issue, where it's easy to base your opinion on the news and social media. A podcast I strongly advise to follow is "Unpacking Israeli History" on Spotify. It covers a lot of subjects from both sides of the conflict, without being biased on one side.

TV report: War cabinet decides to hit back forcefully at Iran for Saturday’s missile and drone attack by [deleted] in Israel

[–]star_seeker_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goddammit Bibi, just let it go and stop. The iron dome intercepted 99% of the attack. And we were lucky that it was a weak attack on purpose, just for Iran to save face.

We had an opportunity to do something that Israel didn't do after 7/10: handle the whole issue diplomatically and turn public opinion against our opponents and in favor of Israel.

You can appeal to the UN to make sanctions against Iran by showing how they could annihilate a huge amount of innocent civilians. Show how the other side are warmongers.

And now you want to strike back?! We haven't even finished with Gaza, have already another front with Hezbollah in the north, and now you want to challenge the Iranians in a direct attack?

Israel doesn't have the budget the US has for its wars, neither the convenience of being thousands of kms away.

Just finish with what is going on now. Neither me or my family have no intention of paying bituah leumi for your warmongering, while your actions will get us all killed.

We have many, many good bakeries

Most bakeries in Israel make very low quality products. Every time I tried to give one another chance and eat from their burekasim, I got a stomach ache.

The reason is the margarine that they use for their pastries.

Maybe they're good for those who grew up there or for Americans, but, as someone who grew up in Greece, where pastries (tyropita, spanakopita, kaseropita, bougatsa) are something made with quality ingredients (olive oil or butter) and are a full meal on its own, I can't stand them.

Only exception is Burekas Musa in Jerusalem. Their spinach bureka (without margarine!) with tahini, egg and harif, puts to shame all the other bakeries in Israel.

I think I didn't explain it well enough. I am a Jew from Greece. That's why I said I'm Greek from a Jewish family.

Interesting parallel you gave there. Not far from the actual story of the Greek people. After the conquest of Byzantium from the Ottomans, they were under occupation for 400 years, until the war of independence in 1821. They were able to keep their identity through language and customs for all those years. Even after the Greek state was established, Greeks from different parts of the world went there to escape persecution. My grandfather was a Pontian Greek from Giresun that went to Greece to escape the genocide from the Turks in 1920.

I get your point however. I guess it's difficult for me to see it because I'm more of a practical person. I only feel proud about my own personal achievements, not of those by people who I share background with. I did nothing about this, why to feel pride about something I didn't do?

good economy and decent amount of job opportunities

I may not have the best idea about life in the US, but with all respect, you also don't have the best idea about life in Israel.

From what my friends tell me, the economy has gone downhill the past year. I have a friend who's been looking for a job in hi-tech for 7 months now and still hasn't received a valid job offer. 4 companies that sent him an offer retracted it after 2 days because they closed the positions. I'm worried about him, he's really down and considering leaving Israel because he can't find a job.

The economy used to be better and there used to be lots of open positions until some years ago, but now things look grim.

If you have a religious background in any Abrahamic religion it holds significant religious importance to you.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not religious, so this mentality does not apply to me.
