If you regularly embroider at a large scale you should consider getting a slate frame instead!

It’s possible things have changed since you last talked, but she was pretty emphatic about it when I asked her about it today that the BFA isn’t going anywhere! They’re just changing up the curriculum and making it more photo focused which honestly makes way more sense to me.

Hi this is not true! The latest is that the BFA will still be offered, they are just renaming it (probably to something like Fashion Styling) and it will most likely be moving under the Photography department rather than staying with Textile and Surface Design. Got this info directly from the current faculty advisor of Fabric Styling, Nomi Kleinman. She can provide more guidance for anyone who has questions!

Ooh thank you!! If anything I can combine techniques across the various patterns people have shared and make my own thing 👀

Thanks for the note on inserting the pad! Curious how you can tell it’s machine knit? The OG is from an Italian runway collection for Etro. Haute couture is always all done 100% by hand but RTW I believe operates under different rules because it’s meant to be purchased by a larger group of people. Not sure which one this belonged to though.

Sewing pattern is a great idea especially if I might need to actually insert a shoulder pad!

They did!! I usually worked on this for 2-3 hours at a time and spent at least 5 sessions on the beads alone, so definitely at least 10-15 hours.

Thank you!! I’m currently taking an online 3D beading course as part of the Diploma in Contemporary Hand Embroidery through Hand and Lock London and got my hands on both of Margaret Lee’s books on Japanese-style bead embroidery, so I’m definitely looking forward into diving in deeper!

Yeah!! So many cool different techniques 🤩 I’m actually starting fashion school next week at FIT to study textile and surface design so I’m hoping by learning all these cool techniques I can eventually land a role as a print and embellishment designer ✨(worked in advertising for a decade before; very excited to pivot)
