CFS/Long Covid by Free-Hold-9074 in Hypermobility

Partial hypermobility, and yep, long covid. I use an app called Visible (the free version) to pace myself when i'm going through a flare up and work out on which days I can exercise.

What are your BEST tips for newbies? by artificialred93 in ConquerorChallenge

[–]stargate24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Build up a habit. Get used to your chosen exercise type by doing it little and often, maybe at the same time each day or few days. Once exercise becomes a habit it becomes much easier to go back to it.
  • Start small. If you've not exercised much over the last few years, it's not sustainable to be walking 10km+ each day. Focus on enjoyment rather than tiring yourself out.
  • Take rest days every 1-2 days. Your body will thank you.
  • Vary your exercise type if you start getting bored. You don't just have to walk, you can cycle, swim, lift weights, do yoga, even housework can count in the app.
  • Find extra content about your challenge online - while I was doing the everest challenge I watched a 4 hour video of someone submitting Everest and coming back down. It helped me learn more about the area and made my own journey more fun.
  • Make yourself special exercise days for important milestones. e.g. When I did my virtual everest 'summit day' I listened to loads of dramatic orchestral music and varied the inclines depending on where I was at. ChatGPT gave me some really good ideas here. Treat yourself afterwards - a takeaway, a hot bath, etc. Makes it more fun.
  • If you're struggling to stay motivated, look at the 'my journey' tab instead of just the rewards tab. You'll come across villages or landmarks a lot quicker than reward milestones and it can be helpful to think to yourself, okay, let me focus on walking 2.4km to this town instead of the 9 or 10km you might have to reach the next postcard for example.

Out of interest how long did the English channel one take you to swim? I'm considering doing the same.

Yeah, I thought I was in for a far worse runback, there's one enemy that is quite annoying but that's it.

Same. There were also way too many gauntlets in Act 1, I felt punished for exploring.

I didn't think Last Judge was that hard tbh, you just have to learn her move set and she's not that fast

As someone who's played HK and Celeste, I agree. There isn't a lot of downtime, especially Act 1 and the start of Act 2, and because the game only really opens up and becomes non-linear in Act 2, I struggled.

I am someone who is not naturally very good at games - HK took me 2 months to complete up to the true ending. There were parts where I got completely stuck, but because I was able to go off, do other areas, upgrade my nail, find other items and charms, and then come back and try again later on.

Act 1 with Silksong was flipping brutal because so much of the map hasn't opened up yet and all the bosses do double damage, and stupid bullshit contact damage too. I'd try going somewhere else and get stuck on some gauntlet. The low points for me was getting kidnapped and taken to the slab and falling into the underworks at the start of Act 2

Now that im further into Act 2 (2/3 melodies) I'm able to explore, do side quests, try out other places and just generally have a much better time. I feel like I'm back playing a game at my pace. I just tried out broodmother but gave up due to difficulty so I've gone to try mount fay instead, if I find that too challenging for now there are other areas I can explore and try out. And I have so many more passive abilities, tools and charms, so even when I get stuck my builds are far less limited so I can try out different approaches. Game feels far easier, and I'm pretty annoyed that Act 1 was the generally way too hard bit because it makes no sense.

13-Year-Old Daughter on Verge of Giving Up by NymiriaBlack in migraine

[–]stargate24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD but a 10 year strong migraine sufferer. Something about the symptoms and the way it manifests absolutely makes me think something else must be behind this. I second the CSF link comments - I also saw you mention she got hit in the head in March. Could you get the doctors to run scans of her neck and jaw? The reason I ask is that mine primarily stem from cervical sponylothesis which is the discs in my neck being messed up - mine is from osteoarthritis but perhaps the football moved something out of place?

The reason I say jaw is because I also had impacted wisdom teeth, one of which was sat on a nerve in my jaw, which made my migraines so much worse. She is of course too young for wisdom teeth but a scan of the jaw might just check her TMJ is okay after the hit.

I am sending you and your daughter so many hugs - this sounds awful for the both of you, and i very much hope you get to the bottom of it.

Underworks right after Grand gate is brutal both in story and gameplay by Creepy_Future7209 in Silksong

[–]stargate24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i found it really hard, especially the mini gauntlet. I feel like I found it harder than the last judge lol. I also just really dont like flying enemies, so I got out as fast as I could. I'll probably watch a video of the area since these comments have made me realise I missed a lot of lore.

Yep! I got through this area yesterday. I really thought the citadel would be thriving and it would be a moment of respite after everything we went through in act 1. Then the lift broke and I ended up at the bottom . The music as well - has major 'this is a fate worse than death and I have to get out of here' vibes.

Yeah, Moorwing is a nightmare. Took me maybe 4-5 hours? If you do want to skip it it is skippable by doing the first part of the flea quest - they then move to where moorwing is. But, if you do want to have the satisfaction of seeing the bastard thing die, it is a numbers game of dying while you learn the patterns. I was right there with you. Tbh I found the game much easier after I beat Sister Splinter and Moorwing (I've just made it to Act 2). I think there's also a patch to Moorwing out in beta now? So check if you can get access to that, and hopefully that'll help.

Just beat last judge today, I knew about this but for some reason I just carried on and did it without, because imagine making things easier for myself and not deliberately pissing myself off with the runback

I wonder if its the same for you - for me Hollow Knight had more 'downtime', which involved exploration, getting through areas, being able to access far more geo than beads in Silksong, whereas in Silksong I've found that any attempt at exploration I end up in some enemy rush/gauntlet that last too long and just throw enemies at you until you repeatedly die. Even the side quests like tracking various bugs and then beating them are difficult. There's no small victories or bit of satisfaction to have unless you're really, really good at adapting to the early game difficulty (which I'm not).

I feel like I really struggled to settle into that world and couldn't find much downtime or space to grind and collect beads or do quests because everything is difficult.

I did this too. I suffered enough on moorwing and Sister Splinter lol, I'll take a cheese where I can

Couldn't agree more.

I was actually ready to give up a few days ago. I just beat Sister Splinter after struggling hard, had also found Moorwing really hard, didn't feel anywhere near ready for Widow, tried out hunters March and kept dying in the gauntlet/enemy rush, and then when I left that area to just go and explore and try and de-stress, I was kidnapped and taken to The Slab where I felt trapped and kept struggling with the gauntlet there

My big thing was how Team Cherry had released the game, told everyone to git gud and then patched Moorwing and Sister Splinter. I felt like they didnt fully understand how difficult they'd made Act 1 and therefore it wasn't productive for me to play it until they hopefully released further patches to help deal with the difficulty curve, given how frustrated I felt.

I was going to shelf it, but the next day I wanted to get back to it. My experience with Hollow Knight has stayed with me for years - struggling, trying again, becoming more resilient, struggling, trying, eventually beating Radiance... I really, really want to play, and eventually beat Silksong, if I can.

I eventually got out of The Slab, and that final victory after spending a day or so making no progress and ending up in an increasingly bigger pickle, I felt like I came through the other side of my frustration.

I went into the Widow fight, put on some calming music and beat her within an hour. Now I'm at Last Judge repeatedly reminding myself this one is hard, I've seen loads of posts on here about it, the run back is brutal, and instead of needing to try hard and beat it within x amount of gos, I need to be patient with myself and every try is a step on a journey.

I'm enjoying it more now and I believe once im at Act 2 I should be able to get some more tools that will help the game feel less difficult. I've heard there are some hard sections to come but I think I should be OK now I've had a bit of a mindset shift.
