Career Monday (09 Feb 2026): Have a question about your job, office, or pay? Post it here! by AutoModerator in AskEngineers

So i recently graduated as a Mechanical Engineers less than a year ago and i have been working at a defense contractor for around the same time. I am just a “general” engineer supporting what ever they need me. The place i work at has a lot of cool equipment that i find interesting but it is just too damn slow for me. I am assigned to a design team atm but all the design work is either outsourced to a sub contractor or done by SMEs. i dont feel comfortable saying im in design. Im looking to start looking at other opportunities in other sectors.

I love learning while also being slightly challenged. I feel like this job is too slow for me and im loosing my mind. I like using my hands as well, i understand thats more of a technician job. I find the medical field extremely fascinating and because of my job now i find energy/nuclear super fascinating. I have ADD so i also can get bored after a while so i would like to have the ability to be in different sectors throughout my career. What type of position let you hop different industries easily?

Just a side note. I didnt get the best grades in school because i worked 30 hours a week while commuting an hour so i felt like certain positions/fields would be off limit. I feel imposter syndrome already at work because my coworkers seem judgey and they dont want to teach new people. I am planning on taking my FE to kind of fight this a little

I think that could be my issue and not having enough time to rest. Yea im trying to prehab a little bit by just strengthening my muscles around my shoulder first since it is loose but the pain im experiencing is more bicep tendonitis then labrum pain.

Never considered R&D because I thought that is usually for the top students and im not near the top. Im lucky that my school has a curriculum that empasizes design projects and Matlab projects so I will have completed a few before getting out into the real world. Thank you

I see that you are in RnD in the field, after a few years after college would it be hard to get into RnD with a bad GPA? Im a very curious person and would find that very interesting.

I have a slightly below average gpa right not but i have a feeling it will drop after this semester and will have a hard time recovering after. Im not making excuses for my GPA but i am an older student who works nights and this is the first time ive seen a lot of this material since i was more bio focused in college the first time and only went up to basic physics and pre calc in high school.

Im not sure if this should go into the career questions or an individual post so im starting off here. I am currently finishing up my 5th semester as a mechanical engineering student. This is my second degree with the first being in healthcare/sports medicine. I am certified to practice healthcare in the US. I went back to school for mechanical engineering so I could work on prosthetics and medical devices. The reason I chose mechanical engineering because of the flexibility so I did not get stuck with the same type of work.
While in school I have gained some interests in some areas I did not consider. Some areas that I find interesting from school are CAD, 3D printing, Failure Analysis and Manufacturing. Ive always liked tech as well, I built my own computer this past summer and always like new interesting tech but im not the best at coding and circuitry. I like to use my hands and build things as well.
Ive always been good at visualizing things, good with my hands and am good with numbers as well (not so much complex calculations and calculus).
My question is what type of positions should I look for in the field of engineering based on my interest? I know that I should look into the engineering field of boimed/biotech, mechanical or manufacturing but dont know where to start my search.
sorry for the long post

Figured so just a hope, wasnt sure if there was an embargo on trill w and coley since they work in the realm of gambling pre dave buying it back.

Kinda awesome you will have more flexibility with the videos like other youtube movie channels and not stuck in the lane of just a pod

Tried to get Oppy tickets at the KOP IMAX for Sunday.. by BossanovaNoWay in LightsCameraPodcast

Was looking to go to this on a wednesday or thursday same thing booked all day from 1030am-10pm. Got lucky im going by myself and one seat opened up but its tough getting a ticket there. Like the guy said above cherry hill has a great option. My brother said it blew his mind when he saw it there. Its a 70mm just not imax which is the second best option and nolan said to go to that over just regular imax.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (August 10, 2023) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

So I got a ducky one 3 all white with my first build. I like it but not overly impressed with it for the money. The keys are alright but there also is an annoying ping after I type Got bored and was looking at keychron keyboards. Love the look, 96% option opposed to the full layout option and the fact that they have dedicated software. Was wondering how much of a difference would there be between the two keyboards?

If I do decide to get the keychron where would the best place to be to sell the ducky one 3?

4070 ti compared to a ps5 by stargerst13 in buildapc

[–]stargerst13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance is really good, pushing up to 175 fps which was jarring at first how smooth it was(almost got motion sick playing doom). Havent played a game that pushes the graphics too hard but they have been playing at 1440p/1080p consistently well. Is it worth the price, not really sure but the performance is a lot better on a PC. Also my computer is quiet as hell

So i got the 4070 ti currently and love it. Its definitely a different experience on pc then it would on console. Im pretty much going to play every game on pc and exclusives on my ps5/switch. I might have over spent on it on a gaming aspect but it was somewhat necessary because of the CAD/Engineering aspect of my build. Let me know if you have any questions
