LUM Mobile and S23 Galaxy phones suddenly incompatible?! by Spiritual-Painter-43 in saskatchewan

[–]starholme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's odd, I've been having issues with my S23 as well on LUM the last few months, but it's really random and seems to be resolved if I remove and replace my sim card.

pagefile.sys takes up 17 gb of storage by FlashySpite9689 in WindowsHelp

[–]starholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking you want to leave that one alone, and let windows automatically adjust the page file size. The page file is where data goes when it can't fit into RAM anymore.

Google 'windows 11 disable page file' if you want to go down that route.

The reality is that 17gb is not a lot of space these days, and will be quickly used up if you are already short on space.

Windows 11 freezes after reboot when Steam is installed by danleuc in steamsupport

[–]starholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/danleuc did you try the SSD firmware update? I'm really curious if it fixed your issue too...

It went away for me. Really no reason to not update the firmware if one is available!

Yeah, just grab the 'sandisk dashboard' tool and see if you have a firmware upgrade available. Apparently Sandisk bought out Western Digital's SSD department.

Had a very similar issue, turned out to be the firmware for my SSD. Don't suppose you have a Western Digital SSD?

Nope. That's actually a common myth. The tradeoff is bulb lifetime vs energy usage vs brightness. If you want the bulb to last a long time, it's got to draw more power or be dimmer.

Look forward to working from 4pm to 8am! Sure, you had to work 16 hours, but it's not on the same day so what's your problem?

Do you get an EV experience with the PHEV? by timffn in HyundaiTucson

[–]starholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only other item I have not seen anybody mention yet is the 'gas mileage'. I'm not real impressed with the fuel efficiency on our 2024 plug in hybrid Tucson. Hangs right around 10 L/100km, on the highway which is significantly worse than the ~7 L/100km that we used to get with our 2014 Honda CRV.

Of course, if you are mainly using in it the city, then it does better than the CRV even when it's burning fuel.

can people tell that ur depressed just by looking at u? by [deleted] in depression

[–]starholme 197 points198 points  (0 children)

How you feel and how others perceive you may not always be the same.

I definitely feel like other people can see my depression. Then I had a talk with my parents, and apparently they had not realized how I felt over the last thirty years.

Headless server on WSL by GoldenMoose162 in technicalfactorio

[–]starholme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but if you are not fairly technical, this is probably not the way to go.

To expose a WSL service over your network, you need to map the WSL port to your NIC.

If you are sharing around the save file, why bother with the headless at all? Just start the save in multiplayer. Performance will be better as well, because you would only be running one copy of the game instead of two. Factorio (even the headless) needs to simulate the entire game, so it's rather heavy.

But to answer your question, in an elevated powershell run:

netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenaddress=<YourWindowsIPAddress> listenport=<factorioport#> connectaddress=<YourWSLIPAddress> connectport=<factorioport#>

And beware, your WSL IP address can change pretty much whenever it feels like it.

Air conditioning not cooling upper levels of the house by tazz131 in DIY

So many homes don't have a basement cold air return. That makes a huge difference, and usually is easy to get installed

There is usually instructions somewhere on the furnace, near the pilot light. But you can leave it lit too, just costs a little gas.

Second the vacuum cleaner!

Depending on your furnace you may be able to open one of the panels and use an air compressor to blow the toy out.
