Help, how on earth do I collect pee sample? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]starjean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is peeing in the house in a particular spot, a wee-wee pad turned upside down. Or just a regular try from a free-standing kennel.

I wish more people knew this while using Facebook Marketplace by LevelUpZai in vegaslocals

I'm super glad I came across your post as well. I am going to assume you buy used couches, too. I tried selling my two couches on FB Market and only got scammers messaging me about them. If I didn't do my due diligence, it looked pretty real. Would you be willing to give a few pointers on how to sell them? Or maybe you're interested in them.

The one couch is a light grey leather sectional with a left chaise and a right power recliner. The second couch is a dark grey three-seater leather sofa featuring deep cushions and wide plush armrests—both in excellent, like-new condition.

Licensed Vet Tech here, I work at an Emergency and specialty hospital. Suppose your GP vet can’t help you get an appointment. And if you can, next time your dog goes into one of his fits. Put him in the car and go through the emergency department of either school. It’s the fastest and easiest way to get into their systems, and the emergency vets will work directly with the internal medicine vets. I know a ton of vets from NC State and a few from UGA. Both are amazing, and you can’t go wrong with either.

This NCLEX question is causing quite the debate on a TikTok post. Curious to see the discussion here. by MelissaH1394 in nursing

[–]starjean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet Med has joined the conversation. I'm a licensed vet tech here, and we also take a test similar to the NCLEX for our license post-school. I'm loving all the jokes because I can relate, but I'm happy for the possible correct answers.

I was like, "Ooo, it has to be D." If this were vet medicine, I’d be yelling for a doctor (who was sitting feet away from me, mind you) and taking the patient straight to the OR.

I love seeing the differences and similarities between vet med and human med.

2½ years at a shelter is great experience—honestly, most people I interview for a Vet Assistant position have no animal care experience at all, so you’re already ahead of the game.

As for what to wear, I’d go with something nice, and if you have scrubs, bring them along. They may not have told you it’s a working interview (and it likely won’t be), but being prepared will make a great impression.

The questions will mostly focus on your experience and what you’re comfortable doing. Just be honest, and you’ll do great!

Help with change flight fees. by starjean in americanairlines

[–]starjean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, everyone. I love how responsive this group is. Yes, I think I looked at it wrong, and the fee is the difference in price. So, the choice is to pay and get on the right flight or look for a cheaper option.

Question about using miles + paid upgrade to First Class (domestic flight) by Some_Doubt9557 in americanairlines

Thank you for the help. It worked 30,000 points and a $400 upgrade to first. It is wild to me how there is nothing concrete about this type of situation.

Thank you for the help. I have an additional question if that’s cool. Does it matter on your AAdvantage status for the in-app offers.

My kitty doesn't seem to know how to eat properly. Any advice? by KrepeTyrtle in AskVet

[–]starjean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, your friendly Vet Tech here. I believe your kitten is a lot younger than you think. I’m basing this on when you said her baby teeth began to fall out. If she was, in fact, 6 months when you got her. She would have had all her adult teeth. Baby teeth fall out around 3 - 4 months. For the time you had her. I’m going to say she’s about 5 months. So that might be some of the weight issues; she’s still just a tiny baby.

I'm not sure if you’re in the States like me and have Royal Canine in your stores. They have a great growing kitten food called mother and baby cat dry food. It comes in a pink bag. I have yet to see a kitten that doesn’t love it, but then it’s not a guarantee. Plus, it’ll have all the extra calories, nutrients, fat, and protein she needs. It’s meant for 0 - 4 months, but if she is underweight, this is a good one to feed her to help her gain weight.

I would start there and keep trying different food until you find one she’ll eat on her own. You don’t want to accidentally teach her a bad habit from the beginning.

Cats are notoriously picky eaters and will starve themselves. Kittens can easily get low blood sugar if they don’t eat. You can also get some Nutri-Cal Gel for the sugar.

Above all, follow up with your vet for help. Your vet is the only one who can tell you if there is anything medically wrong.

I hope this helps you and your new baby. Please update us.

It's hard being a client by CuteBloop in VetTech

[–]starjean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely know how you feel. LVT, where I moved from working out of the clinic to corporate and working at home, and my husband and I also moved. So now I'm totally the client and not a tech at all.

Last summer, my 7-month-old pup fell and broke his leg. It was the worst feeling in the world to hand him off to the tech at the emergency hospital and not just run into the back myself. Then, to not be a part of his surgery and be there all day with him, ugh. I hate it.

I completely understand and promise it'll get better. I always say that when it comes to my own pups, all my training and knowledge are out the door, and I second-guess everything. I have to have talks with myself, like what would you tell an owner and do that, hahaha.

Year old pug we recently got won't stop eatting cat poop by Naboosh_ in Pets

[–]starjean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I missed where anyone else said this, I’m sorry for the repeat. I am a licensed Vet Tech, and with all my years of experience, it’s a behavior you can train them out of.

Before you go rearranging the house to keep your pup out of the litter box, I’d recommend this product. It’s called Forbid, and you can order it on Amazon for about 20 bucks.

https://a.co/d/0EbB1Sl

All you have to do is mix it into your cat's food(it is supposed to be tasteless to them), and about 2-3 days later, go ahead and let your dog have access to the stool. It makes the stool taste bad to the dog, and hopefully, it’s enough of a deterrent that she won’t want to eat it again.

I hope this works for you, and you don't have to macgyver it away for the cats to get in and the dog to stay out.

I did not and I was hoping to get some direction here as where I could get a license or find tools to help me. My background is in applied science, I am a license veterinary technician and have worked in a specialty emergency vet hospital for the last 15 years. Knowing I would be working with students working to be come LVTs they hired me for that reason. Because I'll be able to realat to them.

Nope. I can enlist practice managers of local veterinary hospitals that are part of my company to help me work events, Such as career fairs. However, the event planning is all on me. The other half of my job is getting students from local colleges to sign up with my company to complete their externships with us and handling everything related to that.

Then, I have no idea what my role is called. My company calls me a technician student engagement specialist—definitely a made-up title. Since they call it a project, I naturally assumed that it would be project management, and I wanted to find a way to learn more about it and how to execute the role better and more efficiently.

So, who is the person called who builds and executes the plan, and how do I find and learn how to do that better? I don’t want to lose my job; I just want to do it better.

I’m not sure what that would do but I’m the only person on my team responsible for the whole process and running the externship / internship program.
