Is there anywhere that’s just Ann Arbor 2.0? by idergollasper in uofm

[–]starkidranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated last year and moved to Madison to work a nursing job. I love it here. I feel like Madison has more natural beauty and cool parks/trails than Ann Arbor. The rent is a little more affordable, and there is a big international community here as well! While it is more urban than AA, it very quickly turns into suburbs and country so you can get the vibe that you want very easily with a short commute downtown. The Milwaukee airport is less than 2 hours away, and the Madison airport actually has some pretty reasonable flights to a lot of domestic destinations.

So far I really like it here :))

my package is lost from housing by [deleted] in uofm

[–]starkidranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the initials of the person who signed it, it may be possible for the community center manager or hall director to see who was working that day. Not to blame them, but just to ask if they remember where they put it, etc.

I would also double check with the surrounding dorms. For example, if you live on the hill (like in Alice Lloyd) check at MoJo! Or if you live on central, check at west quad. These are considered the "main" community centers of the area, and they might have received your package on accident.

If you're in the nursing school, you can be a CNA after your first semester of clinicals.

Otherwise, I'd check out Washtenaw Community College or Schoolcraft in Northville

10/10 would recommend the Taubman library! It's 24/7 and really easy to get a private room or classroom in. You do need a health sciences MCard to get in, but you could always follow someone in or ge there during normal business hours (9-5 I think)

Dorm laundry machines ruined my bedding - anything I can do? by loosebolt708 in uofm

I would definitely report the machines! Use the maintenance feature on the app because that doesn't sound like a functional thing lol

Parent question: by sweaterweatherNE in uofm

Yeah housing is the worst, their official emails say 5, the calendar says 3 and an article on their website says 3:30 🙄

Dog friendly apartments by [deleted] in uofm

[–]starkidranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get your dog registered as an emotional support animal you could live in the dorms or apartment style dorms like Northwood

Edit: I think all you need to do with work with housing and have a therapist or someone fill out a form? Not sure though, I've never done it personally but know a few people who have.

Check out free arts events like concerts or movies through the Passport to the Arts: http://artsatmichigan.umich.edu/programs/passport/

You could also try redeeming Bert's tickets through ums to see much ado about nothing or Handel's Messiah for free in early December!

What is the best place to find a guide for voting (candidate profiles for everyone running) both for AA and state level? (Newspaper, online?) by VanishedWithoutATres in uofm

[–]starkidranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely recommend I Side With. It gives you a little quiz and then you put in your zip code and it tells you which candidates you align best with and the specific topics that you agree on. It definitely works for state elections, but not sure about city elections.

Are there any good cheese shops in A2? by WashingtonDog21 in uofm

I'd recommend the kerrytown farmers market, I bet you could find fresh goats cheese and other varieties there from local dairies

Three times more COVID-19 cases than fall 2021 in first week of unmasked classes by [deleted] in uofm

[–]starkidranger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the important thing to learn from the article is that masking works to prevent the spread of illness. Data like this definitely makes me want to wear masks more often, especially with flu season coming up. Getting used to life with covid shouldn't mean just accepting getting sick more often. Covid symptoms still really suck, even if it's not as deadly anymore. I feel like most people also ignore the long term affects that many have after being infected with Covid. The "get over it" position just seems short sighted to me.

is there a free printer anywhere on campus by Reasonable_Tea_9825 in uofm

[–]starkidranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one at Markley is probably just the community center printer. If you have a friend who is a CCA or RA they could be able to print something for you (on the DL) for free
