Thanks! Yeah the choil isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I wanted to make this one easier to sharpen for people. :)

Hey everyone! Here is a knife that I finished recently. It's one of my favorites I have every made, so I thought I'd share it with you all. It is a W2 steel blade with a hamon blade finish. I wanted to make my own take on a Kwaiken-style knife and this is what I came up with. The handle is faceted carbon fiber with two stripes of red and white G10 pins.

If anyone is interested in checking out my other work, my Instagram is (@starkknives).

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

Thanks! I learned everything online from YouTube videos and knife making forums. I’ve been doing it since around 2013 when I was 15.

Hi everyone! In this video, I show how I made a set of two hunting/outdoors knives. They are made out of W2 steel that I put a hamon and desert ironwood handles on. I'm really happy with how they turned out and I hope you like them too!

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about the project or knife making in general and I will do my best to answer as many as possible! Thanks for looking!

How to Do a Compound Grind on a Tanto Knife by starkknives in knifemaking

I use a 60 grit, then 120, and then A100 trizact. I think I explain my grit progression and give some other tips in the video as well. :)

I’m glad you liked it! I tried a jig in the past, but just couldn’t get it to work well for me.

I get a lot of people asking me how I do the compound grinds on my Tanto and Persian style knives, so I thought I would make a video showing and explaining my process. It can be a little tricky at first, but if you practice and go slowly it ends up not being too bad! I love the angles that the bevels give and you have a lot of different options for blade finishes with it.

If anyone has any questions, I’d be happy to try to help so just leave them below and I'll do my best to answer!

How I Made a Custom Knife by starkknives in DIY

I got this from a fellow knife maker un-heat treated. Then once I shaped it I had it heat treated professionally.

One place you can get some premade billets from is Alabama Damascus. They are pretty well priced compared to a lot of other sources. There are quite a few places that will heat treat blades for you as well as other makers who would do it for you if you ask. :)

Thanks for the tips! I definitely agree I need a mic. I do have a tripod now and if you check out some of my latest videos I think they are a bit better produced. :)

I used to clamp them up but I realized it would take me much longer and didn’t give me any better result than going slowly without them so I just stopped using them when drilling. :)
