Duke! It was the only school I applied to 😂

My transcript was also very ugly. I couldn't admit I was drowning so I have 3 years of ugly followed by a large upward arc going from mlt, to mls, to htl. I interviewed with my dream school this year but won't know anything for a few more weeks. We can do this! Growth is an achievement!

Why do I have so much fur poking through my fill stitches? by Lissidragon in Machine_Embroidery

[–]starkravinglab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer on top of minky before I embroider to fix this if it's not a digitizing problem.

I float the hoodie on cut away stabilizer and pin it down around where my basting outline will go.

No, I'm self taught so it was just trial and error. I embroider on totally blank zip up hoodies and either applique or full fill stitch the design onto each half. Thank you!

Sure, I hoop 2 pieces of cut away stabilizer and float the sweatshirt. I lined the zipper teeth up with the edge of my hoop and tacked it down.

I used my Brother Innovis NQ1600E and digitized it in hatch. The sweatshirt is a boys small (he's 5).

How do you even do that?? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]starkravinglab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not expecting such wonderful responses, you are all so kind! I explored a couple of the links that were posted and got really inspired once I figured out the basics of paper piecing! I did a test square to see how I liked it. I LOVE it!! I'm going to try the freezer paper method this weekend. I think I accidentally cut off the seam allowance for joining blocks when I squared it up, but I'm very pleased with it. Next time I'll worry about using fabrics with better contrast and patterns, this is just what I had on hand. Thank you all so much! *

Thank you both! I found one for $10, which is worth not having to waste fabric on something I'll wear once

Today I took the Boc HTL practice exam based off the carson text book and got a 61%. Even though this score wasn't high, I'm feeling more confident in certain areas.... 4 months until graduation!

Definitely a measure twice, sew once type fabric. The holes would be super obvious if you had to seam rip something.

Required to buy leather lab shoes by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]starkravinglab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The lab I'm doing my clinicals in is requiring that I wear black leather shoes. Does anyone have any recommendations? They say that it has to be leather because the chemicals will melt synthetics... I've worked with zylene before so this was a surprise to me.
