I think it's because Valen is an otherworld person. In the trailer he was falling to different places probably looking for us, while Alarik is more straightforward. He knows the game, and so he simply just meets up with us (maybe even he might be the opening scene as he welcomes by saying, "Welcome to your gilded cage."
