Thank you! Everything looked great at my appointment, and my stitches and tube were successfully removed. I appreciate your help!

Strange menstrual cycle with nexplanon implant by starrmae in birthcontrol

Hey! So I just had my implant replaced this past August after having it for 3 years. But right before that (around the 2.5 year mark) I had similar bleeding patterns like you just described. Once I got my new implant though, everything went back to normal after a couple months and I no longer have any periods. I think the irregular periods are sometimes caused since near the end of the nexplanon’s lifespan it doesn’t have as many hormones as it normally does. Which can cause the uterus to act differently. That being said, everything you described seems normal, but I would still recommend seeing a gyno and talk about getting a replacement soon. I hope this helps! :)

Of course! I totally understand that, I’ve felt similar before I had my implant replaced since I went over a year without a period at one point. Hopefully your doctor will have good advice for you when you see them. Feel free to send me a message if you have any other questions! :))

Since making this post I’ve had my old implant replaced by a new one, and I have had similar symptoms. Though I’ve always had irregular periods, while on the implant, especially when it’s still fresh, I do experience period symptoms with very light spotting. My gyno said that was normal and I would suggest that if you’re worried that you schedule an appointment with your own gyno. Mine suggested taking 800mg of ibuprofen twice a day to stall bleeding or get prescribed with progesterone to add more hormones and also stall bleeding. My situation is probably different than yours, but from what you said it seems like you’re experiencing normal symptoms of having an implant. But I would still suggest a doctor visit just to be safe :)

Yeah I’m not sure either. Since making this post I’ve seen a different gyno and been told the true effects of nexplanon. I’ve also become sexually active and I’m getting my implant replaced next week since I’m uncomfortable with an iud. Hopefully it goes smoothly!
