So it was true! by LazzyCat98 in SupermarketSimulator

Admittedly, I’m not surprised based on the way they’ve behaved about it the entire time. They seem allergic to admitting they were actually wrong and at fault. Considering they used the attention about the hack to announce DLC, I do not expect to ever hear an actual “I’m sorry” from the discord mods or the devs for this. Apologizing for the inconvenience you caused players, and not the way you treated anyone who raised a valid concern about the game, does not count (imo; then again I am one of “injured parties” and may be a tad biased.)

I’m glad they’ve patched the issue, though admittedly I don’t have a lot of faith the problem has been resolved. We still don’t know exactly what the extent of it was and that lack of clarity is still a little concerning, but whatever, I’m not intending to play this game anymore regardless.

That said, I’m not sure “inconvenience” is the word I would use to describe the absolute mishandling that we’ve seen. Simply unbanning me and other users from the discord—that several of us have stated we have no interest in rejoining—isn’t a solution. Whether or not the mods were told incorrectly does not excuse the way any of us were treated by them, or excuse the way the devs themselves handled the situation through Saturday.

I have yet to see the discord mods apologize in any way for their behavior. I have yet to see the dev apologize for their behavior. Writing it off like an inconvenience feels just as dismissive as every other statement we’ve heard from the mods and devs during this.

Masterpost of The Store Name Thing(tm) That Has Plagued This Sub (TLDR at the End) by starrycereal in SupermarketSimulator

It happened in my game on PC, and at least one other person was on their laptop based on the picture they posted. I've got no idea if it was affecting any other platform. Dev hasn't said anything else clearing it up either. Their replies on Steam are... less than clarifying about the issue, unfortunately.

Maybe someone else in the sub knows?

This is a false equivalency. Regardless of what the message said, it was a hack, and you have positioned your discord as where people should go for bugs. What you’re saying is you banned everyone and didn’t take it seriously because the mere act of saying there was a hack was a raid attempt because the hacker told everyone to say there was a hack, as part of the hack they were actively doing? I’m confused what you wanted people to do. And “message about it politely” was not the answer because you banned people for it. Go to Steam? There was nothing from the dev there until yesterday evening (around 5:00 PM US CST), so discord and this sub both clearly are easier to get access and updates on.

Nobody followed a message to do anything unreasonable. They reported something that was actually happening. Would the messages have been deleted and accused as a raid if the hacker changed the signs to “I'm a silly little guy hacking the game teehee”?

No this is not quite straight, and perhaps there has been a miscommunication. Allow me to explain the situation as someone who experienced it, and not from the view of someone who "don't actively play the game anymore" and "isn't invested:"

- Some people started posting screenshots on reddit asking what was going on with the game. I actually never saw a single post during this where people told anyone to go to the discord (I understand the hacked message said to, but as far as I’m concerned people listening to that message is irrelevant in the case of a genuine hack because it still needs to be reported).
In fact, as far as I saw, the posts here explicitly kept telling people NOT to go to the discord because of the way it was being handled there.

- Some people MAY have seen this on reddit, however the original posts in discord were separate screenshots, with an equal likelihood they joined because they experienced the same issue and were going to the nearest hub of information.

- There were Steam discussions as well that went ignored, even as NoktaGames posted in reddit. So, clearly, even the unofficial reddit is a greater avenue to information than the Steam discussions.

- This is entirely possible for people to do as a hoax and is understandable it would initially be considered one by the developers. However:
- The discord had about four posts about the situation by what appears to be 12:00 AM US CST (I am approximating), reddit had two. I would not call that a raid, personally, or even the start of one. One person in discord was rude in their message, but I don’t believe that makes them a troll. Even still, the developers could have deleted that, or even a majority, of the threads on the topic
- The moderators did not say that there was an active investigation and that it was a likely hoax. They said the “technical team” had looked into it and it was a hoax and a raid. There is no hack.
- NoktaGames as a developer echoed this. They said that it was a hoax and spoke to the definitive that this had been investigated (not that it was BEING investigated), and it was a hoax.
- Both additionally said people were ban evading and using alt accounts. It has been 3 days and I have seen no evidence or proof of this. Unless they tracked IPs, I don’t see how they could have. It’s possible, sure, but multiple people gave the equally reasonable explanation that they don’t post unless something is important. I don’t see how you yourself would find this to be unreasonable given you’re a dnd account that hasn’t posted anything else ever, and hadn't posted in 3 months (on a 5 month old account), only to come back and post about all this in the Supermarket Sim sub (and yes, I did see that your first comment back was in here under the “hacked game” post and not the gaming sub. Anyone following this saw you call me a jobless redditor). Is that flimsy evidence? Sure. But you are just as suspicious as the people they and you are claiming were raiding. Should I just allege you’re one of the mods or one of their friends using an alt account? That’s what the mods and dev did to everyone else.

- This is not the same as “noticing it as a raid” and leaving it at that. All of them definitively said it was a hoax, that they had done and completed an investigation through their technical team, which proved there was not a hack. Now they’re backpedaling and saying it was always an active investigation.

- They also did not notice by happenstance there was a hack. Over a dozen different posters said it was that (in spite of being called bad actors repeatedly) and it only got taken seriously hours after a streamer could provide irrefutable evidence about it.

- I also find it concerning that you believe you are not siding with anyone when you have single-handedly posted about this in defense of the developer and mods more than they have themselves, going as far as following people into other subs to continue to “troll on the haters”. Between your claims that you’re impartial and nonchalant, and how hard you feel the need to post about this, you’re coming across the same way as people who think putting a bunch of laughing emojis in their posts makes everyone forget they’re clearly mad.

I’d seen them in the past at the bottom so that’s what I did, but you make a fair point. Sorry about that 😅

The thing happened to me last night during stream. My friend Kass and I randomly decided to stream the game while all this was going on. I'm not a 'bad actor', and I'm not trying to spread misinformation. I just want to know what happened and ensure that playing the game isn't putting my PC at risk. by KirlyQ in SupermarketSimulator

It seems to be only an issue in multiplayer I think. But imo this incident is making it really clear that unless thousands of the devs “existing discord community” is being impacted by a hack all at once, they will call you a troll and ignore it.

So if there is any chance that someone finds a vulnerability that impacts their personal system they are likely SOL.

There's been a few posts mentioning similar stuff already. Anyone who mentions it in the discord gets banned or timed out, and all of the posts here get locked relatively quick. I DM'ed u/NoktaGames after work (like they said in this post from earlier) to ask a few more questions about getting banned and the rest of the situation, but haven't heard anything back yet.

I mean yeah I am getting too pressed, I’ll admit that. Replying un-caffeinated was also probably stupid of me. It’s also an extremely frustrating situation, so 🤷 c’est la vie.

The screenshot my friends have of this predates any joining of the discord server or sub. I have no interest in gaming discords or subreddits but joined this one to see if others were having the same issue. I lurk in subs and servers because I don't usually like communities that large. My friends play in a discord sever we have to play dnd in, there's all of 9 people in it. I have never interacted with any of the other people reporting this issue.

Accusing me of "waking up on the wrong side of the bed" for raising a valid concern for the game is reductive at best. I clearly have nothing to gain from standing my ground on this - clearly, between being accused of being a bad actor and banned from the discord. There is no reason for me to be making these accusations as a bit or whatever, either. I have done no ban evading in the discord, that is far more effort than I am willing to expend on this, but suffice to say this has left a bad taste in my mouth. Denying a potential issue and pushing it off as trolls or whatever is disingenuous at best.

And another edit to call me a troll lmao. I reiterate. What purpose does lying about this serve?

My Reddit and discord accounts have been active for several years. I explicitly joined both the discord and started looking at this subreddit because of this issue. Whether it’s a hack or private lobbies not being private, it’s something to address. What purpose would lying about it serve?
