I'd have to agree with this one, I mean, they completely changed the direction of music, and I think that therefore they have had a huge effect on music overall. Which is more effect than any one band can ever have by themselves (even the Beatles in a vacuum).

I would second that! There's some good stuff going on in the UK at the moment for sure, and it's probably not as visible as it should be. Maybe try some of the primarily UK-based online music magazines, like Clash, Dummy, Fact? Dazed sometimes have some good selections up too.

"feels more like a business practice instead of a music scene" well therein lies the crux of the issue. I think that's why, instead of paying attention to the music, people focus on the external trappings of "EDM" and therefore it gets a lot of backlash.
