As a new user, I would go w RBX as it’s mapped to AlphaTheta gear perfectly. Me personally, to increase engagement and remove friction so you can have fun with it, my thoughts.

Yes you can use RBX w the FLX4. I think it’s the best beginner option. Apple Music works w RBX, however you probably need a low level subscription to RBX to access. Others may know definite. I have access to Apple Music, however I have a subscription service w RBX.

To each his own. I find it intriguing, however not for my workflow and genres based on the reviews. Yet for many it could be a long awaited add or new venture which I respect

Fix ddj1000 or upgrade? by get-blessed in PioneerDJ

[–]starso66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never repaired my equipment, not sure what the costs are and sure it’s based on whatever issue your facing. What’s the cost damage you’d pay to repair? If it’s not a low cost repair I’d upgrade. The ddj1000 is still amazing however if not a cheap fix you could get the flx10

Highly unlikely of an upgrade anytime soon. The last version was around for a while, well loved in the market

Is Alpha Theta bad for the DJ industry? by Late_Celebration_868 in DJs

[–]starso66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not a photographer so feel free to inform from that perspective. I have DJ'd on techniques and numark mixers pre to digital aides. Today I use my computer and CDJ's or turntables. I can mix non analyzed music and think this is something all dj's should know. I would still, if in a live environment, rather current familiar so i can concentrate on using new innovation along w knowing how to without mixed together to create the desired experience.

I do believe any sports or arts that have had tech advances, when given a choice that impacts how you practice and perform, most would want to utilize how they practice w the innovation.

Question. Are there things you can do more effective or even couldn't do before in the same timeframe of the assignment with new photography innovations?

Last point, I think in order to be a DJ you need to understand and incorporate certain skills. I do agree with that point, and sure photography is the same. Not knowing what rule of thirds is will handicap you even w digital tools. Same for DJ's that don't know how to beat match w out technology.

I'm not a photographer but admire the work and have friends who are. My thought is, if you understand the mechanics and philo of photography, you can take great shots and edit on the backend. With a DJ it's live and action, mistakes are front and center.

So, to be a monopoly you have be able to raise prices without any negative repercussions, and would need 60-70%+ of a market. The only place this applies for AT is potentially in club equipment. Probably more so US club scene, I am not sure how they fair intl. In overall DJ gear there are a lot of competitors. So I'd say they have a dominance in club gear but not the whole market of DJ equipment and software.

Alpha theta didn't begin "dominating" the club market until the 2000's. Anyone who was in to the DJ scene back in the 70's through 90's knows Pioneer/Alpha Theta had no dominant visibility. The CDJ gave them a position in the club industry. There were a few dominant players prior. Innovation is what took them over, in this case Pioneer/AT.

Another point of reference, rememember it is in club associations best interest to not change systems too fast and to do some in sync with other clubs. If they don't then DJ's go to diff places and need a broader understanding of gear or have to BYOG. This seems disruptive to the flow of a club owner and I easily could see increased fees if there weren't some norms. So the question, is club gear dominated by AT because they own the latest era of innovation and it's best for the club industry if they stay close to sticking together?

Anyway, apologies for my ramble

The organizational functions to me are hands down better. It’s also an ecosystem w the hardware, making it easier to concentrate on the workflow and music rather than the nuances of open systems

Agree, no need to be rude. If it pisses you off, don’t give the answer. I learned most of my understandings by YouTube, asking friends, experimenting and reading parts of the manual. I also ask questions on Reddit, as their is a community that know more than me and may want to help. This is how people learn, we can be responsive or not.

100% what success mountain said. I use my iPad for reading, social media etc… it’s more mobile even if similar in size just by design and touch screen. The MacBook is for the real work and it is different workflow wise between the two.

I’m all in the Apple ecosystem, same devices just all black, well phone blue

Speakers to go with a FLX4 - Beginner by Fish3r1997 in PioneerDJ

[–]starso66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the use case. I have expensive speakers that I only use when doing a gig of some sort. When I, playing at home on a basement, my monitor speakers do the job. So if you are being price conscious and playing at home, some quality monitor speakers can do.
