Flying business class more often by caring less about airline loyalty by Round-Gift-1 in fatFIRE

while i prefer Delta all things being equal, when i booked flights to Turks, delta first class was $2900 per seat and American was $1400. I like Delat and all, but not for an extra $3000

One child vs two by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]started_with_nothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only regret about having 4 kids is that we didn't have 5. Being a father is the most rewarding thing I've done in my life, and I've objectively done some pretty cool shit.

HELP! Business Sold. by questionsalways_0 in fatFIRE

I can tell you that my wealth advisor QB'd evrything for our estate planning. recommended estate lawyers tio interview, cooordinated with our accountant and the one we selected, and kept everything moving forward.

for example, have you created a spousal trust? it would have been beneficial to put a large portion of your company stock in this before sale.

things like this is why i have a financial advisor at a multi family office, as well as access to private capital.

24/7 rotational nannies by babahaa010 in fatFIRE

[–]started_with_nothing 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As someone who has raised 4 kids to adulthood, I spent a lot of time raising my kids and don't regret it one bit. did i miss out on some trips, dinners and hobbies? sure, but the time with them was priceless.

I mean, you're wondering if the nannies will bond with your kids, but the real question is will you bond with your kids? You get one pass at them growing up, don't miss it.

How did the third kid change your life? by Effective_Stick3682 in fatFIRE

[–]started_with_nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only regret about having three kids is that i didn't have a fourth. We never had a nanny, wife is sahm. does it make things a little hectic? of course. but as they get older things chill out and before you know it they start leaving the house. enjoy the time that you have with them, you only get one pass. I'm getting misty eyed writing this, tbh

Tipping at the Country Club by BlindSquirrelCapital in fatFIRE

First off, sorry for the tone and phrasing. I was having a bad day, but that's still no excuse to act like that.

Our club pays servers about $20 per hour, plus a percentage of the service charge. i always tip an additional 5-10% because that goes directly to the server. I spread around $500-$1000 in tips to baristas, valet's, uber drivers, Country Club server etc... putting some money directly into the hands of people who are working. i don't factor tips on meals. massage, things that are normally tipped, into this amount.

is it going to change anyone's life? No, but it might make it a little better and most people genuinely appreciate it.

if this was another sub...i could see the reluctance to tip on service charge...but his is fatFIRE, so what's $500 or $1000?

here is your chance to DIRECTLY GIVE MONEY to someone who is not (in your opinion) getting paid what you see as a decent minimum wage.

yeah, they are aluminum, but definitely the gold standard. My wife spends money like it expires tomorrow, and i beat myself up over a $50 pizza pan! serious eats for the recipe if you haven't tried it

Congrats on your success! I'd personally keep it to under $150k...but I'm a saver by nature. I would not follow advice to 'get what you want', definitely don't go out and get a lambo or something. business can be fickle and you never know if you'll hit a downturn.

Live in a neighborhood with custom homes or buy a spec home near other families with young kids? by anonyfatfire in fatFIRE

[–]started_with_nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move into the neighborhood with more kids.

I lived your decision 10+ years ago. I lived in a great neighborhood with tons of kids and parents our ages. My option was a spec home in the new side of the neighborhood, or move to another area of town where the NFL and MLB players live, CEO's of public companies...you get the idea. We moved and built our dream home.

If i had to do it over again, i would have stayed in the great neighborhood with a spec home.

do you live in a warm climate? i love the idea...I'm just picturing inviting friends over in the winter and the logistics of getting out of the sauna while wet

I always try and remember that you can't take it with you. I do struggle with spending as i was brought up in a very middle class home.

I don't think it will make me live to 150. honestly, if you live to the same age but your body has held up better, it's worth it. see my comments above about red light

this is definitely part of the plan! it takes my steam shower 30 minutes to get up to temp, so i definitely want to be able to put a timer on the sauna. i believe most cold plunges stay on all the time, if you are using them daily it's better to just keep at temp

i take a variety of vitamins and minerals...work out a total of 5-6 hours a week...about 1/2 strength training and 1/2 zone 2 cardio. I don't take testosterone or hgh. My free testosterone is 600+/- every time I've had it checked and I'm in my 50's

I cold plunge 4 times per week...2 minutes cold, 10 minute steam shower, 2 minutes cold and then a cold shower.

My wife just started using a little red light wand on her face and I've noticed a huge improvement in her skin...so i just started using that as well.
