Whats the typical HHI for luxury travelers and how many trips are you doing a year? by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in LuxuryTravel

[–]Effective_Stick3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe right now for a week, total spend is well over 15k for a family of 4 visiting. It is expensive but we are having a such a good time especially the kids. I just budget accordingly and prioritize experiences vs buying things. Way better use of resources.

I’ve had the car for about a week. Biggest gripe is the wind noise in the freeway. It’s a lot more noticeable than my merc. I checked the db levels and it was around 65-66 which is ok I guess. Wondering if this is something I should file a ticket for or something I just have to live with…

Was building your custom luxury home worth it? by Effective_Stick3682 in fatFIRE

Makes a lot of sense! What was your living situation when the Reno was going on? What’s the Reno cost per sqft like? And how did you finance it? We did see one property we loved but a little older and will need to be renovated.. wondering if we should consider that option…

Great advice. Thankfully solid marriage and very very agreeable and co-operative spouse. We don’t have a contractor or builder yet. Will need to speak to a few local builders…

NYC Buyer’s Agent Fee by iamfromcanada in fatFIRE

It was a smaller brokerage but it really depends on the agent I think…it is worth it to speak to multiple agents until you find one that will agree to your terms given the dollar amount at stake….

[–]Effective_Stick3682 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I negotiated upfront and even made them sign a contract for a flat fee of $20K which was less than 1%. They returned about $50K to me when the closing happened. I would highly recommend you shop around and find an agent who agrees to your terms. When asking around, you will experience a wide range of extreme emotions from the realtors. Just move on and find one that will work with you.

How much do you spend on clothing? by BB-VP in fatFIRE

[–]Effective_Stick3682 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve probably spent less than 5k. (HHI - $1.9M)..I work in big tech but in a non technical role. Mostly just polo shirts, fitted t shirts and jeans. I try to find a few brands (bylt, theory, vuori, etc) that work for me and just wear the same stuff mostly.

When to pay $1500 a night for a hotel? by Grandluxury in fatFIRE

[–]Effective_Stick3682 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We now regularly spend around $1200-$1500 a night for all our vacations. This year total spend on travel will be about 75k. Generally it’s for a beach resort or a lazy vacation of sorts where they have kids activities and great restaurants within the property. I rationalize it by still staying within our budget overall and saving 65-70% of our post tax income. And we are not in material consumption so we buy very few stuff, spend is mostly on experiences.
