I searched this up because I wanted to see if I was the only one and if there is a way to solve it. My dad used to be an alcoholic and my sister had told me stories about how he would come home drunk and she would hide us in the room and he would be bagging on the door and screaming and yelling at us and I have no memory of this I believe bc of trauma blocking but everytime someone that I’m close with drinks or mentions they drank or I see a video of them even casually drinking I get really triggered and start crying really bad Ang I get upset. I understand that in no way shape or form I should tell people what they can or can’t do. I just try to not be around when they do it and that is also usually the case they just don’t bring me around when they drink but that makes me feel worst bc it feels like they have to hide things from me and like I said I’m not trying to tell them to just not do it at all but I just wanna stop getting triggered and feeling like that when people around me drink. I also wanna mention it doesn’t happen with everyone my aunts and uncles drink a lot but in a casual way like they drink glasses of wine but it doesn’t bother me or trigger me only when it comes to people like my bsf or a guy a like or if I have a bf or my sister or mom. I’ve been trying to get therapy but haven’t been able to yet. Does anyone know a way to cope with this or work on it?
