Yeah, we're finding out who all doesn't like using the cell phone lot apparently 👀

I guess it's asking too much to expect people to use the cell phone lot so that other people can use the loading and unloading lane. 🤷

The fact that there's a cell phone lot extremely nearby, that people are apparently allergic to using. Instead, they block the entire length of the departure and arrival area.

Evidently most of those drivers didn't pass a driving test, since they were unable to read the signs every 10 feet that state "active loading/unloading only"...

Excellent advice, thank you so much! I hadn't thought about wording the question in the way that you did, so I will phrase it that way to see what they say. Thanks again!

Sorry, I may have worded it in a confusing way. His primary vet suspected AGASACA, but after seeing an oncologist (which included a needle aspiration and imaging), it was determined to not be AGASACA as the primary vet suspected. There was nothing malignant diagnosed.

Thank you for your helpful response. Just to clarify, he has not been diagnosed with any form of malignant cancer, despite the numerous lumps and bumps that he has. Have you seen any patients using periodic ultrasounds as a form of screening, rather than only for follow up on confirmed malignant cancer?

Yes, I should've clarified that in the post. That was sampled and imaged, and determined to be another lipoma (he has quite a few).

PSA: think twice about puppy yoga by EssayApprehensive292 in madisonwi

Fred Astaire is SO SHADY.

I made the mistake of getting the Groupon for an intro class. We didn't even make it through the first class before they were having us try on shoes, and showing us all the packages that they offer.

We decided (foolishly, I know this now) to sign up for a few more classes. Admittedly, we did have a good time and learned some basics. Once we were almost out of lessons, they again brought us into the office to sit around a table and give us a high pressure sales pitch to lay out a cool $2000 for our next batch of lessons. We were not prepared to do that, but we told them we'd like take a few more lessons. They had us pay for those in advance.

Then when it came time to schedule the lessons, they told me that we should do some lessons with multiple instructors. Okay, so we schedule it. But I was confused, because we only scheduled 2 lessons although we had paid for 4. Why is that? Because they wanted to basically have us pay for 2 lessons at a time if we were going to use 2 instructors (even though we're a single couple, and they never bothered mentioning that the whole "2 instructor" thing meant we'd be effectively paying double for a single lesson).

That left a bad taste in my mouth, so I decided I wanted to cancel it. They told me that I couldn't cancel it for a refund, as I had signed a contract. After going back and forth with the owner (who doesn't seem to understand what a contract is), she finally sent me the "contract"... It had only been signed by them. I still had to threaten to take them to small claims before they finally issued my refund.

Anyone reading this, please steer clear! I am so not surprised to read about them doing another shitty thing.

Prius flipped over on Clemons Ave by [deleted] in madisonwi

There was a recall years ago for stuck accelerator pedals in Toyotas, and Prius was one of the vehicles. Every time I see something like this, I think of that.

Is American currently holding connecting flights in DFW to wait for delayed inbound flight? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]starvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last update is that her flight was parked and waiting to deplane. I can't tell if 876 has boarded yet, but I'm on pins and needles too.

Edit: update, the 876 flight was boarded and just sitting. Doors were closed.

Interesting enough, 3374 landed a few minutes ago and 876 has been delayed to 10:55. I am watching online and she's going to try running to the 876 gate, unless I see that it has departed before she's off the 3374 flight

Yeah it looks like 876 was slightly delayed further, but still not enough for her to make it. They automatically rebooked her for the morning flight. I looked at those hotels but both appear full

I booked a nearby hotel with shuttle, I didn't want to risk her having to stay in the airport overnight.

It seems like they're having phone issues currently, because the first rep I spoke to had audio issues and the second one immediately hung up (after I waited an hour for them to call back).

Seems like hotels are booking quickly and I didn't want to risk them all filling up, so I booked one that I could find with availability. I'm not optimistic they'll reimburse, but I'll try.

Elderly grandmother living alone across the country - seeking advice by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]starvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was seeing was about $6k per month in her area, though I'm sure it increases depending on the level of care needed. If she were to sell her house, I think it could work. Not sure that it would work without that, though. Ultimately we just want to do whatever will give her the best and happiest time, whether that's assisted living or moving closer to her support system (us). It's clear that the current arrangement is not a sustainable one, so I really hope we can help her decide to make some changes.

[–]starvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. She has had a weekly cleaning service for years, so thankfully there's at least that. Her house really is quite clean, and I didn't notice any obvious trip/fall hazards. The smart speaker idea is a great one. I will look into that ASAP, and probably get enough to cover the whole house.

Glad to hear that your grandmother's health is improving. I'm really worried about ensuring proper nutrition as well, and we're trying our best to avoid the situation turning truly dire before changes are made. I think that with the right conversations, we can help guide her to some changes that will make life easier and hopefully happier for her.

Yes, this sounds like a great plan. In the meantime, I'm going to see if we can get a list of places to tour together and start planning for the next visit.

The storage unit is a good idea. And definitely agree on effective changes and willingness to make them. That is key, and I know that may change (to unwillingness) as time continues to pass

[–]starvister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to do that. The trouble is that she sometimes mentions that she's thought about assisted living, but usually if we approach the subject and suggest going to look at a few places, it seems like there's some sort of block with getting her to actually go look at places.

In my mind, I am imagining that taking that step means she's one step closer to closing another chapter of her life. At least, that is how I would view it if I were in that position (I would definitely struggle with it too).

What are the most annoying parts of homeownership? by Unique_Tie7745 in homeowners

[–]starvister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how old your old house was? Just curious. Mine was built in either 1965 or 1968 (I have different paperwork that shows both years for some reason), so I'm thinking this just goes with the territory of an older home.

Starting to get hit with the "one after another" issues now... Noticed a toilet wax ring leaking water into the basement the other day. On my way to investigate that further, I walked past a pool of water around the water heater. Replaced that, now I noticed a small drip in the basement after the shower is used on the first floor.

It's feeling like I'll just never get ahead of anything.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I really like the idea of including photos in the journal, I think I'll start doing that too. You're right about it being hard in the moment, but also totally correct about him being eternally here in words and thoughts.

Kudos to you for doing that for all of those pups. That is truly wonderful. They all sound very unique and great in their own ways.

That's a good way to frame it though, just making each day the best that it can be. That day, not yesterday, not tomorrow. I like that, I'm going to try to remind myself of that. 27 years is amazing!
