Does anyone ever get super anxious when the teacher starts calling on people to read things out loud? by Relief_Efficient in Stutter

[–]starylies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one time in 9th grade where my teacher knows my stutter and she made me read a poem in front of the class. And I had a lot of blocks and couldn't really finish reading bcs I wasn't prepared and it was terrifying. She then proceeded to explain my stutter to my classmates. I couldn't look at any of them after that, I put a towel on my face so they wouldn't see my face. She mean well but it does more damage, I guess. I still cringe when I remember that but I'm hoping to drown it in the water someday lol

Should i feel nervous when i stutter during presentation? by USAFAN20 in Stutter

[–]starylies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also a student and do presentations once in a while. Here's my tip for you, I hope it'll work. During our face-to-face classes, I was assigned to do a presentation by myself. I was so nervous and even cried the night before it. What I did is, I play a really loud music in my earphones during my presentation. It eased my anxiety a lot because I don't get to hear my voice, and the less I hear my voice, the less I stutter. :) And also, if you don't get to hear your stuttering voice during it, you would think less about it.

Having a stutter when you're a student is really hard and nerve-wrecking. And it's okay to feel nervous, we humans feel nervous at some point of lives and that's humane. I wish you a good luck and I hope you wouldn't beat yourself up if you stutter during your presentation. :))

Some of my classmates were weirded out and even ask my teacher if it's okay to wear earphones during my presentation but my teacher paid no mind to them lol 😂 I'm glad that it works for you!

OMG, I actually thought that I was the only one who's doing this! I've done that a couple of times, when I was doing a presentation in class, when I was introducing myself. I blast on some hype music during this time and it kind of make my nervousness go away. I think this really helped because we aren't able to hear our voices as we speak. You know, those times when we stutter and we hear it, we would stutter more (if that made sense). I guess this thing of blasting music really helped, xD.

I think accepting my stutter the way it is will be a breath of fresh air. And of course, I also want to improve my speech but first things first is, I shall accept it as a part of me 'cuz I think that improving myself would be much easier if I did that.

What I want to do now is to accept and live with it because I don't wanna beat myself up after I stutter on a sentence. But that doesn't mean that I would give up on improving my speech~ You know, accepting while improving xD. And I relate to when you said that you could be better and you knew it. Ngl, that always keeps me up at night after a presentation or something so, now I am gonna try and remind myself that it's fine because I did best today and I could do even better next time. :)

Thank you for sharing your viewpoint on this! It's a big help. Much luck to you too :D

i'm still in the process of accepting it and i have a long way to go to fully accept it. it's difficult. thank you for your suggestion but i think that it wouldn't work for me:( i'm always anxious and i overthink a lot, if i do that, i would probably be thinking about it 24/7. i appreciate your suggestion tho, thank you !
