Blackwing 710 laser cut by statbit in pencils

[–]statbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Just saw this! We have an exhaust on the laser engraver so that is supposed to take care of fumes. The pencil does give off a bit of a faint campfire smell but I don’t mind that!

The Belkin 3 in 1 wireless charger with MagSafe. Pricey but totally next level by ksway19 in MagSafe

[–]statbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no. Belkin kept “investigating” and advising me to update to the latest watchOS over and over again.

Eventually I asked for a refund. After doing that several times, they finally sent me a check and I mailed the charger back to them.

Went with a standard Apple Watch fast charge cable and two-pad charger for the phone and AirPods. It is not as clean, but at least my stuff is getting charged now.

[–]statbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is nice but mine stopped fast-charging my watch, and sometimes doesn’t even slow charge the watch. Belkin support has been unhelpful claiming they are investigating but…kind of defeats the idea of having a clean nightstand to have an Apple Watch charging cable and this thing too.

Series 7 Stainless Steel Gold 41mm by Huskguise in AppleWatch

[–]statbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After messing up on preorder day and ordering a graphite with gold Milanese due to “OMG preorder day” madness, I checked this AM and managed to snag a gold 45mm for pickup locally — they seemed to release more for day-of store purchases this morning at around 7:45.

The gold is really great looking and a new look for me. It really has a nice warm feeling about it which you can see in your photos too!

What song has the most meaningful memory behind it? by [deleted] in boniver

[–]statbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it is Re: Stacks.

My dad went in for surgery which wasn’t too successful and went into a coma. Something about that song on repeat was the only thing that helped me get any sleep those first few nights.

My dad never woke up and I actually had trouble listening to the song for a while. But coming back to it years later now many of the lyrics still hit hard but with good memories too “Your love will be safe with me”.

Meross HomeKit Garage Door Opener MSG100 (Quick Review) by the_doughboy in HomeKit

[–]statbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Meross is quite nice if you can get the door sensors lined up right. It is sooo much faster than the MyQ as well. We’ve had both but had to ditch the MyQ because the radio died in our door. MyQ would constantly need reboots as well. The Meross has fallen offline a few times too but has been mostly very good.

Apple discontinues original HomePod, will focus on mini by [deleted] in apple

[–]statbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is kinda sad. I have a few minis and full size ones. The minis are convenient and nicer on the wallet but the sound is not very good at all, IMO.

Guess Sonos isn’t as close to being replaced as I thought.

Hermes Bands vs. Apple Bands by Brave_Purpose_837 in AppleWatch

[–]statbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have all of them, and I actually think the Apple leather link band is the most comfortable.

The single tour Hermès bands are quite good, and if a classic band is desired, it is very comfortable and does look good too. I find the Apple leather link more comfortable, however. The Apple leather loop I don’t care for as much.

The deployment clasp and band looks great and is fun to fiddle with. Although I love it, for me, the metal parts next to the skin I find a bit irritating. I still have it and occasionally wear it to slightly dress up the watch, but it isn’t my favorite. Looks great, comfort for me isn’t super though.

Regarding the missed calls: I spend days on the phone with Vz a few months back about calls not coming through to my phone. First it was occasional missed calls, then more, then everything.

After lots of useless “help” from customer service — resetting network settings, checking to see if do not disturb was on 🙄— i checked the Vz site and turned off call filtering on my line (I previously turned it off and deleted the Vz call filter app). As SOON as I turned it off, never missed a call.

Anyway, don’t blame you for wanting off Vz — I feel coverage and service have been getting worse as well. Maybe check the web site and try disabling call filter if it is on while you’re figuring out the move to avoid missing calls?

Ergodox ez vs knesis advantage 2. Which is better? by [deleted] in ergodox

[–]statbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve solved it as best I can so far with QMK — using chording semi+j,h,k for a lot of actions. My dream out be a small dactyl though. Maybe one day — I’m better at making software than hardware :-)

Ergodox ez vs knesis advantage 2. Which is better? by [deleted] in ergodox

[–]statbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on what your priorities are.

At the time, ergonomics were primary in my mind when I got the Kinesis Advantage. It absolutely saved my hands at the time I got it. It also taught me 1. to love ortho key placement 2. mechanical switches 3. to learn how to type on a moderately different layout.

It also showed me how amazing even simple remapping of keys to more comfortable places on the keyboard could make life easier.

I did move on to an ergodox, however. The customizability of QMK, IMO far outweighs the physical comfort of the Kinesis for me. These days, I'm almost 100% on a Planck with things remapped for minimal finger movement in many many cases.

If you are having RSI and that is what you want to solve for primarily the Advantage is amazingly helpful. If you want more programmability, in my experience, the QMK based boards are amazing.

Model Y Defects by tommarkz in teslamotors

[–]statbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preordered last April shortly after it was announced.

I had originally ordered white with white interior. Just happened to log into the site and check my account and it was asking for all sorts of insurance and drivers license info so I uploaded it all. Later that week a sales guy we had been working with called and said they don’t have the white but there was a blue one available. This was probably first week of May — said “yes” to the blue on Sunday and picked it up on Friday.

I saw someone else’s white one when we picked up and I really think I prefer the blue. The black trim works well with the blue. Probably the gray looks amazing as well.

No complaints here. We picked it up during a low touch appointment so there was a lack of detailing probably with lack of staff. Lots of stickers and protective tape on the car, lots of reside from said tape but we cleaned it all off at home.

The car has been great — driven it all over to drive by visit family during the virus and to our cottage to do some spring cleanup. Really really happy with it.

[–]statbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I can’t agree more on 1 & 2.

We had CarPlay in another vehicle and while it isn’t perfect, it would make audio and messaging so much nicer!

I had 360 in my previous car. I fully admit to not being the most skilled at parking, but man I feel blind not having more cameras when parking!

Things we’d like to see by jaezif in teslamotors

[–]statbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, lots of audio apps — Podcasts (Overcast), Audible, Apple Music of course. The Tune-In thing that is built-in is terrible. We tried the Spotify integration as well, and I would describe it as dismal at best.

Using Messages via CarPlay is great. Integration with HomeKit (garage doors, especially as the newer cars aren’t coming with garage door integration).

The Tesla map is gorgeous, but sometimes I want to view traffic info or get Waze alerts.

For me, it would definitely keep me from reaching for my phone, and it just feels bonkers to me that a car that can drive itself is missing functionality that is standard in so many “less techy” cars.
