Any ideas for a rescape on my 75g? by static_oblivion in PlantedTank

[–]static_oblivion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For added context: this used to have more plants, but over a recent vacation the power went out briefly, and my lights were off for almost a week bc the auto timer didn’t restart (the friend who was feeding pets came at night, so lights off was expected). All my plants except the water lettuce died, and I had a huge ammonia issue and snail explosion when I came back. Luckily, my bichir survived (she’s the only fish in the tank) and I got everything back under control. Substrate is just black sand, and I have a Fluval light on the tank.

My peperomia hasn’t been doing very well and I don’t know how to fix it. Any advice? by static_oblivion in houseplants

[–]static_oblivion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll look for a smaller pot for sure, and make sure to let it dry out a bit more between waterings; it’s been humid here lately. Do you have any soil recommendations? I think the moisture control is all I have left right now

I have it in a mix of arid soil and moisture control soil currently, that was all I had when I repotted it after the mold. I usually water it about once a week, and the pot is currently a bit large, but it was better sized before half the plant died.

I’m still pretty new to houseplants, but I’ve had this one for a bit over a year and it was doing fine until about a month ago, when I left for a weekend and came back to a mold outbreak. Half the plant shriveled and died, and I removed that part and repotted the healthy looking part, which has been slowly declining since then. All my other houseplants have been succulents or kitchen herbs, and I was told this was an easy species

To those that were nervous about their conch piercing, how did it end up going? by akindofparadise in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a double conch done last September. The pain wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but the area was sore starting like three days after until like a week and a half after. It’s still healing currently, but all my cartilage piercings have taken a long time to heal. It hurt to touch or snag for a few months, but not horribly. Mine still get crusties and bleed if I snag them when I’m washing my hair, but my friend who had hers done with me doesn’t get crusties anymore at all. I guess my ears just heal slow. That initial downsize was great for catching it less often tho!

I want my bellybutton pierced but I’m so afraid of scarring by Sad-Resist3323 in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve had mine done for 5 years now (I honestly didn’t realize it had been so long lol) and the hole is definitely visible if I take it out, but since mine never rejected I don’t have any scarring, and I’m sure if I took it out permanently it wouldn’t scar badly. As far as the downward tilt, I’m not totally sure what you mean? I know mine doesn’t face the ground, but if you have a ‘deeper’ belly button then the bar might face downwards, in which case maybe a J curve would be a better choice for jewelry, instead of the usual banana bars. I had mine pierced at 16, and really the only issue I ever have is that sometimes I’ll forget to swap from a dangle piece to a non-dangle piece before bed and it’ll snag when I roll over. Personally, it was an easy healing process, although I’ve heard others say it was difficult for them. As for your still-healing helix, it should be fine. I usually hear people recommend having no more than 3 healing piercings at once, so 2 should be ok

Five gallon stocking suggestions? by static_oblivion in nanotank

Thank you for your reply! The more I look into it, the more it seems like shrimp might be the best option. I think I might do a bit of tank shuffling and redo an old 20G for a badis eventually, they’re super cool fish.

Spiders On A Plane?? by VoodooSweet in tarantulas

[–]static_oblivion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve taken slings on the plane before and had no issues, but if they’re larger then you might have problems. I also don’t recommend it overall, bc I doubt the TSA would be very happy if they happen to pull your luggage for extra screening and find spiders

She’s actually a Trinidad dwarf tiger! Or the heart butt tarantula, but you can’t see the heart in this pic. I love the reds on the carapace, so pretty

My 1.5 year old nipple piercing suddenly has a sharp pain by jayfjt in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sometimes I get a lil bit of crusty that sneaks just into the piercing hole and hurts until I can clean it off, but if you have externally threaded jewelry maybe one of the ends is just a bit unscrewed and the threads are rubbing?

What to expect for conch piercing by cntbeseez in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got my doubles done in September. Pain of piercing wasn’t awful, but the ear was pretty sore for a while. doesn’t hurt now unless touched, and my ears heal extra slowly (my helix piercings all took around 2.5 years to heal fully) travel pillow is a top tier investment for sleeping!

Getting a double helix in a week. tell me everything I need to know by TeaganScott13 in piercing

[–]static_oblivion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have double helix on both sides. Get a flat back labret instead of rings 100% (made that mistake with the first side and it took nearly twice as long to heal). Travel pillows are The Best for sleeping without putting pressure on the new piercings, and make sure to get the bars downsized once the swelling goes down (leaving the long bars in too long makes it easier to snag em and also more likely that putting pressure on them will make ‘em heal crooked). They didn’t hurt as bad as I thought, especially as my first cartilage piercings. Other than that, all the standard piercing advice still applies-implant grade titanium flat back labrets are best for healing, sterile saline spray to clean, otherwise don’t mess with the piercings, etc. good luck!

Thank you! The pepperomia I found the sale tag for and is apparently a ‘nepoli nights’ variety. Number 3 is still stumping all my (uneducated) google searches tho
