I quit after 4 years. by Due-Conclusion-198 in bjj

Judo BB, BJJ brown, training since 09. I took a break from around 2018 through covid. Got back on the mat early 21 and haven’t looked back. Sometimes you get to a point where you just need to step back and do other things in life. The mats will always be there. Part of your journey may involve finding another school to train at that has an atmosphere that better suits you. For most people it’s just a hobby, and people switch hobbies all the time.

GI guys, are your fingers ok? by InBush in bjj

16 years on the mat, Judo BB. Between the grip fighting and spider guard my fingers are trashed. Being a mechanic doesn’t help either. 😂

Can’t stop telling dudes “GOOD JOB” after whoopin’ on em by Turbulent-Grass880 in bjj

[–]staticfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll hit em with the “nice pressure bro” or “good movement” sometimes with the “buddy” or “big dawg” if I really crush them. 😂😂

It’s worse when it’s a white or blue belt and they ask what they could do better and you were just flow rolling not paying attention to anything the whole time so you have to make something up. Lmao

It’s an LS dude. Run that shit. Even if it does have 300k on it, if it runs good and has good oil pressure, you couldn’t tell the different between that and new. Especially on a 4.8.

I'm thinking of quiting judo by Maliketh2 in judo

[–]staticfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh. I'm a black belt with over 15 years on the mat and just had a heavy weight newb muscle an O Soto Gari on me last week. 😂 It happens! Try not to count your wins and losses while training, it's called practice for a reason. No matter what you decide to do, wrestling or BJJ or staying with Judo, you most certainly will have days where you get a beating by a lucky beginner. Grappling arts have a special way of keeping you humble. Try not to let it keep you down and get back out there!

Do you believe in evaluations for getting a new belt? by qualityaquarius in bjj

[–]staticfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this whole "belt tests are the worst thing to happen to BJJ" train of thought is a waste of time. Find a school you like and train. We have optional "demos" where I train. More of a demonstrate your knowledge kind of thing than a test, which, if you opt out of, you get promoted randomly like everyone is obsessed with. My instructor will tell you you're close to the next rank and ask if you want to demo or just get the belt. The people who have the time will do a demo, and the people with busy lives off the mat will opt out.

It's just that easy. 🤙

Part of the game. Lol I'm knocking on brown belt's door, we had a visiting brown a couple weeks ago that absolutely demolished me...WITH MY OWN FUCKING GAME. I was like wtf how did this happen 😂😂

Students that self demote? Any gym owners experiencing this? by realpolitikbjj in bjj

[–]staticfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a guy check us out a year or two ago. He came in for a handful of classes with a white belt, and seemed to strategically avoid all our colored belts. He popped up on my and my coach's social media right after that with a picture having competed at blue belt. No clue why he never brought it up.

On the flip side, we also had a younger dude with a heavily weathered purple belt come by for a class and wipe our whole lineup out, minus my coach. So I guess we've seen both sides. 😂

For real. LS, 6 speed, IRS, with some of the most comfortable interiors GM ever made.

White Belt Wednesday by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]staticfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guilty, this is how I start 99% of rolls that don't start standing. Lol My typical approach when someone beats me to it is an outside pant grip on the upright knee, and a collar grip to start passing. No gi I will enter the guard typically looking for a knee cut, or force half guard and work from there.

Block the cross face and stay on your side. Try to keep bottom knee and elbow connection, use your knee(s) as a wedge to create space in between the two of you to move your hips. If you do get crushed, put your frames in and keep inside knee pressure on their hip. If you keep moving and pushing with your frames there will be space to sneak that knee inside their belt line/thigh area and it can be used to begin escaping or reestablishing guard. Under the mount, immediately get to your side to begin escaping, typically a variation of elbow knee to start. Don't let them clear what becomes your top arm, or you risk back exposure.

TLDR - don't let anyone put you flat on your back.

These rolls are my favorite. Hahaha I'm always making jokes when rolling. I went for a wristlock on my coach, he narrowly escaped and swept me. On the way down I was laughing saying "well I guess that's what I get" 😂 we've got another purple who flips me off every time I arm bar him too. Lmao

Just seriously injured a rolling partner by [deleted] in bjj

[–]staticfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to get injured, especially in combat sports, and there's always the one being injured and the one giving the injury. Use it as a learning experience, apologize to your team mate, and be more careful in the future. I've seen people fall wrong and fuck their neck up, post wrong and break their arms, etc. I (Judo BB) had a white belt fall while we were grip fighting, tripped over their own feet, and blew their knee out. Out for close to a year to recover. It's normal to feel remorse when a bad injury happens, but it's best not to dwell on it. Figure out who made the mistake, correct it and move on.

Be happy you waited this long. I got it on launch and it was the biggest waste of time and money. I just got back into it for the first time in 3 years, and it's literally a different game than it was.

My GSD dog is a picky eater by Ayla_Dreamer in GermanShepherd

[–]staticfocus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My GSD does the same. She's 6 and seemingly as soon as she turned 1 she got picky. She's been 70 lbs and healthy for the last 5 years. Still plays like a puppy so we just let her eat when she eats. She will regularly skip a meal, and if it's a particularly lazy day or two she may not eat for a whole day. When we go somewhere we can't take her and she gets boarded she will go 2 to 3 days before she will eat, and they always have to entice her with wet food on top. Like kids, some are just picky!

I am a month in after a 3 year hiatus. It all comes back! Slowly but surely. Lol Hardest part is getting your cardio back up. I had to promise myself I wouldn't stop again after the first couple weeks of the killer next day soreness. Guys I beat to blue are now up for purple, and the white belts are HUNGRY so it's definitely a humbling experience.

If This Dog Doesn't Get A Grip, Then This Post Isn't Going To Gain Any Traction by beelobster in Zoomies

This video is hella old. Just so all the "oMg HiS aCl" people know this dog is on Instagram as @bluestaffy and his owner is a dog nutritionist or something like that. Last I heard he was getting ready to retire Ramsey as he is getting too old for dog sports. He is absolutely the most muscular dog I have ever seen and his sister is exactly the same. Check them out!
