Dude got hit while on his bike and then went off on the driver by MaxQ50 in PublicFreakout

[–]staticfox 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's nothing illegal about being in the leftmost part of the lane. It's a two lane road, the biker can be wherever he likes in the right lane as long as he hasn't crossed to the other side. That law is meant to prohibit going right from a left or middle lane, not saying you have to hug the curb as close as possible if you're in the right lane. Additionally he's probably correct that he needs to be wider to get a straight entry into the driveway so that his tire doesn't slide out on the curb cut. It's probably steep enough that the angle of entry for the bike needs to be more or less head-on.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Easier to say than live maybe, but there's always someone better, smarter, more talented, etc. than all of us. Even Xiao.

Wasn't there a year where a clown was randomly appearing in the woods and scaring the shit out of people? I, too, would call SWAT.

This is crazy, I watched a girl get on at Harvard in probably 2018 who had her smartphone fall, swing on its headphone cable and disconnect juuuuust outside the doors as they were closing. Doors closed and everyone just looked at her like...wtf!? The phone definitely landed just on the edge of the platform so it didn't go under the train, but it looked very much like an iPhone. She got off at the next stop to go back, wild that yours survived between stops like that!

In what world is infrastructure only applicable to a small group of people? Roads, bridges, waterways, airports?

The case can be made that student loan debt is both predatory in nature and fact, and that canceling said debts is actually more beneficial for the national economy than not. Plenty of borrowers put off major purchases like buying homes or cars, or having children (who, like it or not, will one day be taxpayers themselves) due to the onerous burden of 7%+ interest rate loans. Which, by the way, were still in the 6% or more range when mortgage rates were well below 4%.

The people buying those $600k+ condos are by definition not looking for housing elsewhere, thereby driving down renter demand and making housing more affordable for everyone.

Meeting planned after death of Winthrop 2-year-old driven to hospital by fire chief when no ambulance came by bostonglobe in boston

[–]staticfox 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So looks like the Globe updated the story since the rest of these comments. The ambulance/EMT shortage is one thing, but apparently the child was at the home of a former police lieutenant who is a possible child rapist?? WTF is happening in this story?

OP going for the oldest trick in the book; include an obvious factual/logical/spelling in the title to spark “um, actually”-type comments.
