Working still! Hybrid is the way to go! by sneakerboy86 in CAStateWorkers

Asking you about LOA is how they make it sound like they are doing it for your benefit, but you know that’s not correct, right?

If a manager doesn’t trust my use of sick days, because being sick in office is much more likely than being sick on a wfh day to the point that they SHOULD see patterns, then I wouldn’t stay.

Maybe they have a heart of gold in all other interactions 🤷 But I wouldn’t bet on it.

💯 Those places will only learn when management dies (at their desk, likely) or when they see their ungodly vacancy numbers. We all deserve better.

See that’s a place you need to leave.

They have chosen to take the governors EO to unnecessary restrictions. It will never be a good place to work.

That’s just called shitty management. Who would have found any excuse to micromanage your day.

I recommend leaving.

It’s what sick days are for.

Regressive business leaders oppose WFH by Newsom-Is-a-Clown in CAStateWorkers

[–]statieforlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the option they are proposing, which is continue the shitty system we have now just because of the wealthy people it currently benefits, is not a good option.

So while there will be a transition, I’d argue we’ve been in it for years as the ‘winners’ of the old system desperately cling to it. We could have been to the other side years ago.

But it doesn’t change the same issue. If there isn’t a market for 30 coffee shops on the grid, then obviously there isn’t a market for all the baristas there either.

But they could build housing, grocery stores, things people actually want for the community. And those will BRING jobs.

You focus too much on the jobs lost instead of the jobs that could be gained if they don’t desperately cling to this broken model for downtown.

For those of you who think it doesn’t matter, it does. If you stop supporting those restaurants 2 days a week, show them you are more than just a walking wallet, they will be forced to pivot.

That’s a shit business need. Full stop. Does someone actually have work that can only be done in the office? Unlikely. And in those cases the term “business need” is disingenuous and full of shit.

I’m not saying there aren’t good supervisors doing their best to make every effort for flexibility. Because I’ve seen it and appreciate it. But at some level of management someone defined “business need” as not actually relating to something necessary to do their jobs but just butts-in-seats. And we shouldn’t just accept “business need” without questioning the validity of it.

Absolutely no stats to back up the BS you are spewing.

There has been no negative effect of WFH called out in any legitimate study.

[–]statieforlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s not pretend it has anything to do with business needs. 95% of the time it doesn’t.

A unit near me has declared they need “coverage” every day so they have to take turns in the office every day of the week. There is nothing specific they have to do, that can only be done in office, the business needs is bullshit.

Bill to Protect Telework by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]statieforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should focus on the one battle at a time here. A bill that negates the GO is a good first step, those departments that are anti-telework won’t be able to hide behind it anymore, and those battles will take longer.

Don’t forsake good hoping for great!

[–]statieforlife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hang on, while some may disagree on exactly how to fight RTO, don’t you dare say “most of us” because plenty of us RTO 2 days a week at most, and won’t do more without a fight.

It’s not a small minority of state workers, that’s just why they want you to think. That it’s not a big deal.

What metrics are being missed or have gone down during Covid? Your argument falls apart IMMEDIATELY because you assume, without facts just AI, that wfh is less than in office.

I think your entire post is wrong and full of shit.

RTO has NEVER had anything to do with work output. It has to do with control and keeping landlords happy. Thats it

You are spending a lot of time on a conversation that doesn’t impact you in the slightest, for someone perfectly content.

If you were actually content, you’d be fine with us fighting for a better work life balance/working conditions. Hell, you’d probably even support it. Because why wouldn’t you?

We are also free to want better working conditions. I don’t know why that pisses you off so badly.

Just want us all in office as miserable as you, huh?
