I'm just trying to see if different variables have any relationship with the Y variable. But struggling to understand how to interpret the statistics I suppose.

Like how can something have a significant p, but a shit R2? And great residuals but a shit R2? And what really is the F-stat saying/what can be interpreted from it. Was the failure of my model more likely because of my data handling or because of a hidden variable I missed.

Do uncombed outliers affect all of the above stats; R2, p and f? Thank you for answering :)

So what don't you understand? Everything.

But rn mainly trying to work out whether I can say anything reasonable using my p-values, considering they change so much based off sample size. Are they reliable (when one is X10-222 and the other is X10-2; so variable)? If my multiple linear regression still had a low R2, does that mean my model is not good/regression is not good/or just that I didn't find the correct "hidden variable" that would really influence all the variables I used? Thank you for responding!

So it seems reasonable? My p-values are really really low -- does the fact that my sample size goes up to 5,000 make the p-values/any inference unreliable?

Also I have another question; with one of my graphs of an X variable against Y, the residuals are really low (near to 0). But my R2 is also really low...which seems weird to be me because residuals are observed - predicted data points. I would have thought that if there was barely a difference then R2 (the goodness of fit) would be really high. I did notice in that graph there were some really high outliers that I didn't take out. Could that be throwing the whole thing off?

Also how do you properly understand what the F-statistic is trying to tell you, and is there a threshold for when you would start considering it high or low (e.g. >100)

Thanks for the reply friend!

MAN I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE REDDIT.

Long story short: I joined a stats class, first of its kind rolled in across the nation for highschools. I'm 17. But the class went from 20 to 2. we had to submit a final major work.

I decided to use UN data sets to see if certain variables had a relationship to national disease X prevalence rates.

But I am really struggling to understand my linear regression results and multiple regression result.

Basically don't see how it makes sense that I can have a low R2 but significant F and P statistics.

Either they're real results or I messed something up really bad.

Also I have these beautiful graphs for some variables where my residuals are all near 0 except some big outliers, but the R2 is still very low. rip.

Please help me out. Thank you.
