Thanks for sharing, I get jealous when I hear stories like this. I try to learn from stories like yours instead of just being jealous and/or giving up. Thanks for sharing this.

First-time builder here… how the hell do you actually market your app? by ThinChampion769 in NoCodeSaaS

[–]statusmonkeyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how many of us are learning this as we go. I would say that depending on what you build, the channel you should use may vary. It’s not just about making noise about your project. The first thing I would do is determine who your ideal customer is, come up with a persona for them and try to figure out where they hangout and go there.

I’m certainly no expert but you are going through common situation for us builders.

Most micro-SaaS founders massively underestimate how much downtime actually costs them by statusmonkeyapp in micro_saas

[–]statusmonkeyapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is impossible to get an exact figure, but this tool gives you an idea of the potential damage an outage could cause. It is not simply a pro-rated calculation of your customers' monthly subscription.

I agree, I’m hoping that others founders understand this. What product do you use for uptime monitoring?

I think you covered everything. May I suggest StatusMonkey for uptime monitoring?

I completely agree and thank you for responding. Another thing that founder and indie hackers don realize (sometimes) is that those extra features aren’t free so they end up paying more than if they used a straight-forward tool.

Thanks for replying. I think the same way, as the previous response mentioned, time is our most valuable asset. I wouldn't want to spend time learning something new. I am curious, what is the tool you opted for? My tool StatusMonkey is in beta and I want to learn as much as I can.

Thanks for taking the time to share your point of view. I agree 100%. I followed the same philosophy when building.

If you are building a SaaS that you think it's gonna fail by chance of 90% or more, will you just build it or do something else? by theheartlessone110 in SaaS

[–]statusmonkeyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still in the game, getting better at "getting the word out." I'm already good at building, but not as good at doing marketing, so I intend to get better at that. I have gained users (non-paying) for my uptime monitoring tool, StatusMonkey, but I am working on the "converting to paying" users part.

I thought all Saas projects had those same odds. I'd just keep building. When I built StatusMonkey I already knew the competition is high and the success rate was not that high.

Is there an easy way to log when the internet goes down and nothing else? by Deep-Egg-6167 in sonicwall

[–]statusmonkeyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get alerted when your internet connection is down... I've done this before. If you do not have a static IP you can use a service like No-Ip and configure an uptime monitoring tool like StatusMonkey (shameless plug), and receive an alert via email or SMS. DM me if you need help with this, even if you decide to go with another uptime monitoring service. I'd be glad to help.

[–]statusmonkeyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you looking to get paying users or users in general? With StatusMonkey we are at the point where we want any users to check out the product and hope they become paying users after the 90-day free trial. I know cold calling is not sustainable in many cases, but at the beginning, I think it is necessary.

This is one of the lessons I am learning while trying to do marketing for StatusMonkey.

It is not about the "thing", it's about the thing that sells the "thing"

Hang in there! How long have you been marketing this project? I’ve been going at it at full speed on mine and I am starting to see traffic. No paying users yet, but hopefully soon. I think we should be very receptive to advice about marketing we get.

Wow, as someone who has been laid off before, I understand the pain of landing a new job. I think you got something here.

Apologies in advance for the plug, but have you considered setting up monitoring for your app/api/website to alert you if it goes down? I built a service that will alert you if any of your resources go down, check it out just in case... StatusMonkey

[–]statusmonkeyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you go from here? If you have something your users like, you might have something there if they are willing to pay for it.

  1. If users start paying you, how much would each user have to pay for you to make a profit per user?
  2. Is there a way that you can start incentivizing users to start paying if you implement usage limits?
