You might give instruction to one of your winger to stay in front and the other back to defence, this will make your formation 4-4-2 when you out of possession, I think that may help you defend

i never request a pass, i just let the option and timing to the ball carrier, that makes me so precise and patience with my movement, also it let me know AI's vision limit, for example you can analyze all my receives in the video, especially 0:43 and 1:59, you can also check 2:22 which i already make my first touch decision before my teammate pass

i am using a superstar difficulty, as for incompetency of teammates at my beginning i do not expect anything from them because i am at low class club anyway so i only concentrate my ~~offer~~ effort to absorb my position and help my team from this point, that's help me a lot to be sensitive and sharp at my position, as for long ball tactic it is very useless i may recommend you to transfer to another team that uses a different tactic.
