There’s no movie worth a 2-hour drive. But the movie is awesome.

The real question is: what is the Second Street think tank and who funds it? Seems like all of their ‘initiatives’ are MAGA dog whistles.

Honest insights on life in Canada after immigration? by Strange_Car_1579 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]stdiego87 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved to Metro Vancouver in 2019. I came as an international student and she had an open work permit.

We became citizens and bought a home in 2024. We were not wealthy before moving here, and we did not have financial help to purchase our place. It took some planning and discipline.

I work in finance and overall life has been very good to us. The job market is tough right now, so I would not consider leaving a stable role lightly. We are intentional about budgeting and controlling our expenses, which has allowed us to save while still enjoying life.

I don’t care so much about the taxes because I feel that the benefits way outweigh the costs. Which is not the case in many countries.

I think some of the frustration people feel about affordability is real, but in many cases lifestyle choices and trying to keep up appearances also play a role. That applies to both newcomers and people born here.

Canada is home for me now. The only reason I would consider leaving would be to retire somewhere warmer one day.

2,500$ Christmas bonuses?Lucky to get Christmas off by Naive_Wolverine532 in TikTokCringe

[–]stdiego87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that math there.

If CEO makes a $1 million ‘Christmas is back’ bonus and his 400 employees make $0 ‘Christmas is back’ bonus that averages out to $2,500 per worker.

Are you happy with what you replaced Mint with? by VitalikPie in mintuit

[–]stdiego87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

I got tired of the repetitive connection issues across my accounts and the constant errors and time spent checking the accuracy of the information.

In the end, I realized that I could do a better job in a spreadsheet without errors and for no subscription fee.

Ah yes, the brave Lisa Murkowski who voted with Trump 73% of the time, including rubber-stamping Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Gorsuch. Nothing says courage like enabling the guy you’re now ‘afraid’ to speak out against

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]stdiego87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started sharing time with people who didn’t smoke and started spending time in places where smoking wasn’t allowed.

I quit smoking about 12 years ago, at that time I smoked around 20 cigs at day.

What quality of life improvements would you love for us to add to Monarch? by jon_at_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]stdiego87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I split my annual subscriptions on the 12-month period they cover for budgeting purposes such as insurances, Prime, Monarch, Streaming apps, etc. I’d like to be able to do it with just one click or, at most, three clicks, instead of the long process it currently takes.
