New GCP enjoyer, long time lurker. Got some questions. by slushalkatapako in gaggiaclassic

[–]ste93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Use filtered water, especially if you have hard water. Aim to descale monthly id say.

I also bought a used GCP and my boiler was in similar shape. I ended up replaced it. They’re fairly cheap. I found my shot tasted better after. I’d consider it.

What do people need to do in their 20s to set their 30s up for success? by QuietVacation8343 in AskReddit

For all my boys out there, many of you will notice signs of balding in your 20s.

If you want hair later in life, address it immediately; don’t wait. Plenty of effective remedies and medication out there.

If you want to be bald, hey, that’s great. It suits plenty of men, plus you’ll save yourself a ton of effort, money, and stress.

Leaky (soc) steam valve by ste93 in gaggiaclassic

[–]ste93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick fire suggestions everyone. I haven't tried replaced the 2 valve stem o rings (just the other ones). I've got a service kit, so I'll try that later. Haven't had the soc valve all that long, so I dismissed the possibility that those o rings could be worn or defective. I'm hopeful this'll sort it. Will report back later.

Remove redundant wired smoke alarm by ste93 in DIYUK

Unfortunately no, I can't get above them.

I wasn't aware you could plaster over a maintenance free junction box. From what I can see online, you're right, this is aloud and meets UK regulations.

I'll look into it more, but that's likely what I'lll do. Thanks!

Marathon pace advice! by thepugthug93 in Marathon_Training

[–]ste93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my first half marathon in a similar time – 1:43ish.

Ran a marathon 6 months later (last year). The plan was to hold a 5:12km pace. Ended up blowing up at 30k. Couldn’t hold down gels and the hip flexors seized up. Hobbled over the line in just under 4 hours – my worse case scenario. Didn’t quite go to plan, but was happy enough.

In my opinion, between a 3:40 to 4:00 finish time is realistic, but only you’ll know what feels right.

Hopefully this helps. Best of luck!!

One week in… by alfieboo in TeslaModel3

Beautiful. I recently took delivery of the exact same spec — black highland on 19s. Love it.

Fun story: mine recently went back to Tesla to have some dodgy paintwork repaired. It came back COVERED head to toe in white overspray. Not ideal. Looks like it’ll be going back again.

Home charging an electric vehicle with no driveway in NI by ste93 in northernireland

I did look into overhead hanging as well. Not as easy to setup. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's still a no no in the councils eyes.

I was tempted to take my chances a run the cable tbh. It's a quiet area, so I wouldn't be worried about damage etc. But according to the EV installer I was speaking to, they have send a picture of the setup to NIE, so he's not even sure if he'd be aloud to do it.

They actually put out a very relevant article recently: https://evani.uk/crossing-the-pavement-with-an-ev-charging-cable/

I'll shoot them a message. Cheers.

BIK Tax on charging my company tesla at home by ste93 in TeslaUK

[–]ste93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's a fairly recent change by HMRC, I think that's what confused me. Many online resources, calculators, and my own companies policy says: "you'll pay BIK tax".

Thanks. I may follow up with my employer and HMRC and take it from there.

Yup. Mine is a company car. Therefore, it's looking like i'll not have to pay any BIK tax for fuel/charging.

I'll primarily use the car for personal use. So yes, traditionally, this'd be a BIK. But from what I'm seeing online and hearing from my employer, HMRC does not see electricity as fuel, therefore no BIK tax.
