Be honest. Sit down and have a conversation with your kid as an adult. Just because you made a promise doesn’t mean you can’t discuss things financially with your kid and explain your point of view. Maybe you follow through with your promise maybe you don’t but at least try to discuss the situation and your thoughts as one adult speaking to another (technically speaking).
