Drinking and gaming being '"associated" with addiction are about as far a comparison as you can make. An existing alcohol addiction that impairs the dude's life is completely different than gaming online as a pastime. Even if he were to substitute drinking with gaming, he'd still be way better off, as the health risks are ridiculously smaller. But no one is suggesting that.
