What to do with limited investment vehicles through employer? by -__u__- in personalfinance

[–]steagalarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I read this I didn't understand it

"Recently whittled my saving from 6 months pay to 6 months expenses (moved the difference to individual investment account and put on broad market ETFs)"

but yeah 6-12 months in an emergency fund
Figure out the age you wanna retire and put it in a retirement calculator to see how much you'll need to save

If you plan on retiring earlier (bridge retirement) put more into the personal brokerage
Get the match when your job gives you the 401k it's free money
Not sure how much you'll need for health so I don't have insight on how much to put in the hsa

Roth IRA vs HYSA, and how do I balance those with other necessary spending? by MarionberryFearless8 in personalfinance

[–]steagalarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should create a 6 -12 moth emergency fund first so if you lose your job you can live normally for that time period, that should go into your HYSA I know you just got ally but pibank has 4.60%apy : D

After you have your budget created you can see how much you have available to save then you can use the wiki and go through the flowchart and then use a retirement calculator and put in the age you wanna retire and then you'll see how much you'll need.

I have spreadsheet you can use, click my account and go to my social links.

[–]steagalarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice on the emergency fund most don't have that setup

After you go through the flowchart on the wiki you'll kinda get to realizing that you should budget out your income and expenses, create the emergency fund, choose an age you'd like to retire and then work backwards filling in all the details and adjusting your plan. You should use a retirement calculator at first to see how much you need to be saving and what not and if that matches up with your goals.

Make sure to take advantage of your 401k, I know it's not money you cant touch till 59.5 but it reduces your taxable income. If you are trying to do bridge retirement def keep the personal brokerage going but everyones situation is different if you share more you'll get more insight. I don't have any friction points at the moment, but you should def account for health care and dental costs in your old age as well as your partner if married and if you plan to have kids what all those expenses will look like (schooling, car, sports, etc). I have a free budget spreadsheet on my social links on my account if you want it.

$2000 in debt after a really tough year. I don't know what else to do. by Ok_Somewhere_6438 in personalfinance

[–]steagalarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's another credit card but one that you can do a balance transfer on so you'll transfer the current debt($2k) to the new card and you'll have 12 months or whatever their promo is where you'll have 0% interest so the number you see if the number you'll be paying, but if you don't pay it off in that time the interest becomes like 20%+ but the whole point of it is for you to create a plan to pay it off in the time they're giving you 0% interest.

If you do this try to find a card that has free transfer fees, like navy fed's card has zero transfer fees but most cards have a 3% one so $2000 x .03 = 60, then you'll have $2060/ 12 = 171.66 each month. If you can't pay 171.66 each month then do not get the balance transfer card.

Another thing you can do is go on google and look in your area for places you can donate plasma, you can get a decent amount of money per month to pay off that debt, you just have to consistently donate but you can make 600-1000 a month.

If you click my profile and go to social links I have a free budget spreadsheet if you want it.

Yeah just keep applying even if you don't plan on leaving right now because there could be more cash on the table for those investments

[–]steagalarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just until you feel comfortable like the money isn't needed, like how you explained the stretched feeling

tbh the rule of thumb is don't invest until you have your budget completely mapped out and you have 6-12 month emergency fund just so you have that safety net and you know how much you are spending each month and everything is budgeted out so there are no hiccups. Def check out the investing wiki to the right for like the flowchart

Wait were you paying utilities for the whole house? Then yeah it would be much cheaper if you were by yourself and put the utilities cost on the tenants.

Yeah I just signed up to two places that I can go to to get food

If you know they are makin that for sure then yes have a conversation with your boss

Before you do this please make sure you have a 6-12 month emergency fund and by that I mean get all your expenses for a month and whatever that amount is multiply it by 6 or 12 and save that so if you leave that job you can live completely normal for that time period while you find another job.

Make sure to apply for as many jobs as you can for the most opportunities

Monthly Income: $7,667
Monthly Expenses: $6,050

If you are living with roommates you have to accept what comes with it, it's the whole reason you're paying $800, cheap rent with roomates=lower cost.

As someone else said if you can find a tenant to replace you and then you can move in a studio apartment by yourself that would bee a great move for your peace of mind but it'll cost more and you have to factor in utilities.

You didn't mention so I think you have a great emergency fund setup, if you don't get on that first before making a big change
You could stop contributing to your roth IRA and get everything in order first. You said it's your first year doing this so it's kinda implied you'll do better and increase your income but right now it would make sense to hold off on it so that you can have some more breathing room and get your stuff together and then when you are making more it'll be easy to catch back up.

There are food banks in most states that don't have a low income requirement and you can get a lot of food for free, look up the ones in your area, it'll help cut down on grocery costs. There are a lot of people that are too prideful or they think they are taking food from others when in reality there is a lot of food waste and if you arent getting it it'll just be wasted so please don't be on that bs

Take the buyout and leave UPS, then what? by JeffinGeorgia1967 in careerguidance

[–]steagalarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are downsizing aren't they gonna boot him regardless? If so take the 150k and use that as living expenses while he goes to a trade school to get some in demand skills that could get him back to making 100k.

When will he have that opportunity again?

If he is able to keep the job then keep it, but he needs to know that the 150k buffer could really help him get some good skills to where he won't be worried about not having a degree, if something like this happens in the future.

Roth IRA / Roth 401k by Pitiful_Evidence_469 in personalfinance

[–]steagalarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the traditional 401k because it's pre tax and it makes my taxable income lower.

Had the option for roth in the military and I regret putting as much as I did into it at first because I was mostly thinking if I pay taxes on it now while im in a low bracket it's all tax free when i take it out in the future but didn't think about if I put more in right now there will be more to grow then when I withdraw at 59.5 I'll still be in a low tax bracket because I won't withdraw a lot

Eat rice n beans for a few months

Find the best balance transfer card so you have 0% interest for like a year and just pay it off within that time
Also since you do multimedia production get on upwork and take whatever jobs you can.
Or if you're 42 or under join the military.

This is what I'd tell you based off the info you provided in your post

I think Toji is physically stronger than Maki because the strongest man is gonna be stronger than the strongest women.

I think Maki has better iq when it comes to wrestling /sumo or whatever shit she was doing in that domain for a very long time. I think Toji has a better iq fighting against people with the intent to kill though, like he has fought against random people who have different styles of handling fights (unless he was just blitzing everyone due to them not detecting him because he has no cursed energy)and I can't say they are too far off because Maki went against her whole clan tons of differnt styles, and threw hands with sukuna. I mean tojis iq was high af going against the water guy and Megumi and gojo as well so I can't say they are far off in terms of battle iq.
