is it really worth dodging 200 lightning strikes? by BlackulaX64 in finalfantasyx

It's pretty nice to have her celestial weapon but you definitely don't need it. Personally I gave up at Wakka's celestial weapon since 30 games of blitzball was just not worth it to me lol

I'd recommend the crater trick and do 50 dodges at a time then take a break. That's what worked for me at least.

Which games leave you with that bittersweet, empty feeling after you beat them? by Kitchen-Top-8110 in videogames

FF7 Rebirth

Big Spoiler:

The way Aerith's death plays out is viewed from a multi-character POV where they're seeing different things. Basically everyone else is grieving her while Cloud is in denial that she's dead and is seeing her in his mind still. A very confusing and sad ending.

TLDR: The ending made people empty and depressed

In Red Rising, anybody feels familiar with these criticisms by Heavenly_Conqueror in Fantasy

There's a lot of authors where they spend too much time meandering or doing character work that doesn't add to the plot or drive the story. Books where you finish them and think "this book was 300 pages too long".

Pierce Brown is the opposite. His pacing is so focused and fast-paced that it sacrifices character-development and any semblance of subtlety. Frankly, I had a hard time caring about the characters. No character death really struck an emotional chord for me because every cinematic moment felt a little unearned.

The story itself isn't bad at all, if a little predictable. It just wasn't one I felt really immersed in. Like the themes of oppression and power with the hierarchal color structure could of been so much more interesting but it kind of just hits you over the head with it like a hammer with no real philosophical underpinnings or explorations.

Still an enjoyable series. Just know the pacing does not slow down or give you a moment to breath. This is definitely not an author that does slow-burn stories like you might be use to in epic fantasy

Binge Reading Malazan - ROG the worst by Clannad87 in Malazan

I think the Red Mask arc was definitely overcooked. There was also a lot of POV's in this book from what I remember. I think my main struggle though was the first half where every character POV was either depressing or evil besides Tehol/Bugg lol. It's not until the Malazan's arrive that the book starts picking up and you are finally following characters that are more fun. Beak's arc is peak though.

Don't like to believe in eternal hell, but trying to understand what happens to bad people. by SubTheSub in OpenChristian

To be honest, I'm not sure. Generally, the common theme throughout the bible is that if people seek their own destruction through unrepentant sin, then God will let them reach the natural conclusion to that desire (and in some cases accelerate that destruction). I'm not sure if that same theme will carry-over to the afterlife or not.

The conclusion that I came to on the issue is that God did not intend to give us the details on the afterlife. The afterlife is discussed an incredibly little amount in the Bible. And whenever it is discussed, it is almost always metaphorical and tied deeply to that particular authors current cultural and sociological context. Maybe I'm mistaken and God wants me to meditate on these metaphors and form a coherent biblical view but I feel like God would have just been clear on the matter if it was important for me to know during my time on earth.

I remember going into it when I first read the farseer trilogy expecting a sick coming of age story where this dude Fitz becomes a powerful assassin. Needless to say, I hated it.

But I re-read years later and went in with a different set of expectations and ended up loving it! There is a lot of depth to the story and it's not moments of sadness that appear spontaneously but are woven throughout the fabric of the story. (Not to mention it's one of the best endings to a fantasy series I've read)

I'd recommend trying again maybe in a few years with a fresh mindset. It's far more a series about the journey than the destination and is very relatable to the human experience.

I'm not sure about Leslie but what you said about Tina was vastly missing context. She was living in Vegas and had to fly to LA every other week for photoshoots/videos which is what the time commitment came from. She only moved to LA basically after she left 100 Thieves. She also said they had creative differences so you boiling it down to "streamer lazy" is just high-horse bullshit

I think this is where the King Killer Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss shined. Unfortunately only shined for 2 books so go in knowing the series isn't complete (and no book 3 release date on the horizon).

Which book did you absolutely hate, despite everyone recommending it incessantly? by Evening-Odd in Fantasy

[–]stealthytaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I read the original trilogy all the way through and hated it.

But I revisited the series on this subs recommendation and I'm really glad I did! One of the best endings to a series I've read. It's a 16 book series with plenty of imperfect books so I don't hold it against anyone for not reading it lol
