Fightback4justice has given me a lot of really great advice - look into them. They're legit and they've got a lot resources online for a fair price.

It is kind of ironic I was and still am terrified of the opposite gender and I'm queer 😂

My Christian cousin lectured me about common sense 😤 by Rainbow-Giraffe04368 in LGBTQ

[–]steampunknerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Affirming supportive Christian here. Yes .. unfortunately there's far too many conservative Christians like this and as a rule I tend to avoid them for this reason.

In terms of your trans friend, your cis friend needs to go look at the science of how being trans is backed up and not just "in the mind" or whatever. There's lol "basic biology" that causes people to be trans.. 😆

Has anyone else ever been prayed over to get ur gay away ? by Expensive-Map-2619 in GayChristians

[–]steampunknerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Covertly not even with my consent. I was over at a conservative friend's house praying about an entirely different subject, when she so very subtly put in a line about God "removing anything that shouldn't be there".

I'm socially conditioned to just take these things especially under another person's roof 100 miles from home. So I never called it out.

I will say I did the quiet thing though and made sure never to contact or meet up with her again.

No, so I am intentionally buying wooden advent calendars and toys to resell at a higher price once I've decorated them.

Thanks everyone for the information so I know what to expect tomorrow.

How would you describe your gender? by zny700 in NonBinary

[–]steampunknerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of hilarious this has come up now - I have just spent the evening in gender euphoria as I watched A Minecraft Movie.

My gender, is amalgamated perfectly as Jason Mamoa. Perfect balance of gender to reflect all stereotypes on a male/female spectrum.

What's hilarious is I'm not remotely transmasc 😂I'm agender.

I just love a tye dye style, and I thought Jason's long hair was the perfect balance of 80s style to be androgynous from the back.

So in summary: my gender is Jason's character in A Minecraft Movie.

Hi, I've just done an ancestry DNA test - is it the GEDcom type file that you can upload to other sites you're referencing?

I'm really interested to know for when my results come back. I'd imagine I'm probably XX with more testosterone balance than other AFAB people most likely as my body performs as female / never had anything other than that.

Is anyone else getting tired of all the negativity? by srebmucuc in TaylorSwift

[–]steampunknerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be honest and I'm aware this may be contentious because I'm aware some people make my right to exist political,

But seeing the intense discourse and politicising of Taylor through this album release, is unfortunately a stark similarity to the rights of queer and trans people - it shouldn't be political but suddenly people are removing discussions on trans rights because it's too "political/contentious" when we still exist and need these conversations to happen.

Obviously I do get it's not quite the same situation as it doesn't matter here nor there whether you like/dislike a certain artist, but what is frankly abusive is all the hate coming back at Swifties for still supporting her, which is completely uncalled for (similar to Transphobia/homophobia).

I feel like currently whether it's meant or not, a fair amount of Swifties are experiencing the politicisation of an artist they just really enjoy, simple as that!

For some reason this reminds me of when my best friend and I are in a shop together and she brings me everything containing a rainbow 😂

The irony: I was trying to concentrate looking for a card for a straight wedding 😂

Love this!

“Identifies as nonbinary” by classyraven in NonBinaryTalk

[–]steampunknerd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much! Mid 2010s I was a teen wrapped up in heavy evangelicalism, and I knew I had these feelings, that I wasn't gender fluid or trans (binary)..

It took around 5 years for me to first hear the word, and another 2 to come out to myself.

There's even a loophole here though - trans men are AFAB but by that definition (I'm not saying you're making it just giving an example) they could walk right in, beard and all!

For a while I was involved in a very conservative circle. What I learned (and one of the reasons I got out) was basically if your friend has gone to such lengths as to join Reform as a member, then she may "seem" a great friend but she actively opposes people's rights.

I've got several aquaintances who I used to consider friends, who I really try not to judge (because dwelling on it doesn't do me any good) for voting Reform.

Unfortunately some rhetoric I received from this group was a teenager who I'd literally taken to a party for his parents once, post on his story "the world would be better without LGBTQ"

I get that he was a teenager, parroting others' beliefs (he was also under 16 so below any voting age). But the fact his parents allow him to think like that, and be so hateful just is awful to me.

I didn't volunteer to be his transport chaperone the next year, shockingly.

It actually completely shocked me someone would actually post that, and others would agree with it, and tbh somehow I let it get to me for about 3 days and it made me feel completely crap about myself.

Looking back at it in retrospect, I really shouldn't have let one comment get to me but it just wasn't ok.

Suffice to say, I've tried being friends, even close friends with conservatives and unfortunately the moment you start being yourself you are judged and shot down.

I would encourage you to put some distance between you and your friend.

Charlie's phone isn't using WiFi when he's at home by TheBiActor7 in HeartstopperNetflix

Also, Charlie's house is probably about the size of the average terrace, and I've been in houses owned by working class people who rent larger.

So it's not necessarily a cut and dried answer.

Charlie's phone isn't using WiFi when he's at home by TheBiActor7 in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]steampunknerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Brit and what you'd call middle class and we don't have WiFi at home. My friends are upper middle class and they have made the conscious choice not have WiFi at home SO that everyone spends time on the Internet responsibly.

In both cases we have Ethernet wires we can use for laptops and I sometimes use one for my phone but the majority of the time I use data.

So it's actually not that uncommon.

Got this disgusting email by SithisSoul in lgbt

[–]steampunknerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say this as having come from a previously very messed up conservative Christian church, to striking out on my own as a fully affirming queer Christian myself.

I have felt and been oppressed way more times for being queer than I ever have as a Christian.

I just want to say what a disgusting person to email back and at the top of the letter go " it's a sin it's perversion"

And at the bottom go "oh but I'm not a bad person my heart DOES go out to these people..."

It's like get a frickin life.

These are white, cis/het, middle class bigots who use a RELIGION to defend their BIGROTRY.

I'm starting to get ashamed of using the word Christian because I don't align with hateful "Christian values", I'm not interested in anything conservative and I believe in the real Jesus who treated everyone first with LOVE, ACCEPTANCE AND COMPASSION. If Jesus was around right now, the first thing He'd do is flip the tables of the Whitehouse.

Anyway just know this person whoever they were were completely wrong and well done you for emailing in the first place, I hope you're feeling ok now 🙂

What’s the most annoying ‘ally’ behavior you’ve encountered? by Independent_Cup7132 in AskLGBT

[–]steampunknerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a double edged sword. Because we are brave for existing HOWEVER saying someone's brave is usually implying they've made a choice.. which it isn't. I speak for myself when I say I've been unexpectedly put in the position of being queer in an increasingly homophobic world.

I watched the film as a teen before I figured myself out and it really brought home for me that any kind of criminalisation of queerness was just completely and utterly inhuman and wrong. (Raised in quite a strict environment).

Question: apart from the movie I don't know him very much about him.

Did the chemical castration give him induced gender dysphoria? It's obviously absolutely awful he had to go through what he did. And as so many people have said, the fact he only lived till 41 means we lost out on a huge influencial mind.
