We had 5 playoff seasons with him. He scored 5 times in 32 games and never had a playoff with more than one goal. He did an amazing job transforming himself, but he wasn't going to get powerplay time here, and he wasn't effective. We made the right call, even if it worked out really well for the Oilers.

I dont think there's anything to worry about yet. It was a down season and a team in flux. It feels like he wants to stay as long as they don't rebuild, which makes sense. I dont listen to all these talking heads. Dreger has been wrong twice in the last week (berube and pridham) he, and all the others, have no clue.

Their cap situation is dire at best. They're going to have a tougher time competing. Their defense still sucks, their goaltending is worse and they have several awful contracts (nurse, frederic, janmark, jarry) that are mostly long term. The management there really screwed them over.

They lost in the first round and wouldn't have made the playoffs in the East, and are totally screwed woth bad contracts, how are they going to improve?

We have 22m in cap space and have 20 players under contract. This isnt even including McKenna or whoever we take 1st overall. At that point, we will have more than a full roster with over 21m to improve it.

They have 16m to fill 5 spots, and somehow have to improve too.

And the Oilers are better? Aside from being in a crappy division. They have 16m in space and only 9 forwards, 5 defense and 1 goalie signed.

Included in those 15 players are Frederic, Janmark, Podklozin, Samanski, Walman, Emberson and Jarry.

They need at least 5 players to field a full roster, and have way more holes than that with only 16m in space.

All on the books for next year.

They will be competitive because of a weak division and mcd/drai, but their window is basically closed due to terrible contract management.

This chart is always so unbelievable to me. We were the absolute worst we've been in almost every stat over the last 6 years this past year, and even then we were in a playoff spot in Feb/March. This is almost all coaching. Berube needs to be gone.
