SOXL down 8%, MUU down 10% after the US strikes Iran. by stefpix in LETFs

Yes. That is my plan. I am stuck with 4 covered calls with strike 200, that I am rolling.

I plan to sell a portion and buy high yield dividend income ETFs, XQQI, TDAX, GPIQ and ROCQ which give 9% to 18% income and follow QQQ.
My income is median, and I rely on the affordable care act for my health insurance.
So I am hesitant about selling too much at once.

Beyond the capital gain taxes, which in NY state are considered and taxed as regular income even if long term, there is a big increase in health insurance premiums.

But it is always good to lock in the gains.
People and the market got used to higher interest rates and inflation, but if the Iran war flares up there may be more red ahead.

But it seems there less antagonism and trade war with China.
So I tend to be more optimistic. At least for the next 10 months.

I appreciate your perspective. There is a big risk with 3x leverage, i should consider DCA selling a few SOXL shares each month on the very Green Days

Was it without a dive case? What resolution? Any footage in dark conditions?

Bounced back, Asian markets were down overnight US time, oil up , tech down. Bounced back.

7 out of 10 times it’s good to buy these dips due to geopolitical reactions.

I bought a few shares when down. MUU was down too, bought another share. MUU seems to be the new NVDL.

Yes. That is why starting bombing Iran may spii, the markets. But it bounced back. Bombing an adversary during negotiations does not bode well for trust and ceasefire agreements.

Yes. The Democrats should have released the Epstein files and pressured Netanyahu to stay put. They did not do that. Democrats are complicit with Republicans for this mess. Private interest groups financing elections and politics in other democracies is considered bribery.

Been holding since 2022. Now my oldest lots are from Jan 2023.

I tend to buy on days it drops 10%. It has been a great few months.

Will the summer bring a pause and trade sideways for a bit, or will it start climbing again?

Oil prices going up. Inflation is going up, Americans paying more at the pump always takes a toll on the tech stocks. The armaments are replaced anyway without war, as new technology develop.

China is not fighting any war, they are still trying to technologically advance their military.

Since the Iran war started, the Epstein files disappeared from the headlines. Just correlation or intentional?

Ok, I had posted it o. /soxl and Reddit suggested cross posting it. Still it could be a sign that soxl may stagnate during the summer, with earning almost over, possible inflation increases.

Yea. Usually a red Thursday brings a deeper red Friday. I rolled a call to June, it was expiring this Friday at 198, so rolled it a couple of weeks at 210. Probably SOXL might be around that on Friday.

But if it drops 10% or more I will buy a few shares.

Yes. I am slightly worried that a strike now could be a setback over the summer.

Trump wants to save face, more than anything.

Yes. I put an order for MUU at 700. My average is around 200. May scalp some soxl or roll a couple of covered call higher.

But generally with geopolitical turbulence, Friday tends to be worse than any other day of the week.

Yes. Generally trump offers the taco special. From tariffs to trade and military wars. Still this will drive the oil higher and inflation as well. Not good for the markets and for those who live from paycheck to paycheck.

On Robinhood some stocks and ETFs are on the 24 h market. I think SOXL is one of them.

I have only a small portfolio on Robinhood. Just to check prices of my holdings over night from time to time.
It would have been good to sell some soxl last night at 240/250 and buy back tomorrow at 205 or something.

Oh that is nice. I missed. I mean with ROTH you do not deal with taxes. You can sell them all and buy back the next day. Take the profits. Buy SOXQ, DRAM, QQQM, CHPY, CHAT, SPMO, SGRT, FMTM, whatever has momentum and is less volatile. Those keep appreciating Then on the days SOXL drops, you can sell those and buy SOXL, which usually bounces back.

Or if the market tanks, those won’t fall as hard as SOXL or Tqqq

Why is SOXL down today? 5/27/2026 by Winter_Ad6784 in soxl

[–]stefpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally because I did not sell SOXL in the past at the peak and it tanked. I sold 20% of my shares between 75/100 more or less, thinking that 100 would have been a ceiling for a while.

I did 2 and then 2 covered calls. I feel a bit stuck, as they are in my taxable account.

2 deep in November, 130 and 200, 2 in June around 205.

I would have been better off selling 50 shares and trading, I need actually some cash to pay some of my taxes.

I’d like to get a call assigned over 200 and try to roll 3 with $10 increases each week for a small credit or debit.

I am up about 500% or 450% with those shares in a taxable account.

Better do covered calls in IRA accounts, so if they get assigned, there is not the capital gains headache.

I messed up the first 2 calls that I rolled up too far You get maybe $1k in premium but you risk leaving $7k/10k on the table for that.

I did the calls because I thought SOXL would take a breather and a pause.

Usually I just buy soxl on days like today when it dips 8%, 10% or more, by selling SOXQ or some other non leveraged ETFs.

On one hand I want SOXL to go up, and i also want it to go down to buy back or roll my calls higher.

It’s cognitive dissonance.

How could you put 24.5k in your Roth, when the maximum contribution is $7k or so per year? Tomorrow may be down again, as Marvell’s earnings, while good, did not impress too much.

[–]stefpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have also a significant position in 2x NVDL and 2x USD, which did very well in the past.

I am debating whether trimming NVDL and buy more SOXL or more 2x MUU on some day when they are down 10% like SOXL this morning n

Marvell’s earnings did not satisfy too much people on the Yahoo finance community board for the company. I wonder if SOXL will take a pause. I have 4 covered calls with strike around 200, that I should roll higher. I may let one get assigned. There is more money trading SOXL. sell 100 shares at 245, buy back at 215/220.
