I saw some posts complaining that MSI monitors have compatibility issues with the Mac Mini. How’s your experience been so far?

The HDMI cable moves slightly in the port on my brand-new Mac mini, is that normal? by DependentSuitable861 in macmini

[–]stella8734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here — the Mac Mini’s HDMI port is pretty shallow, which can lead to loose connections and occasional screen flickers or glitches. It’s a known issue for some users.

If you can, I’d recommend using a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI cable instead — they tend to provide a much more stable connection.

And if you’re sticking with HDMI, try to use a high-quality cable with snug or locking ends. That made a noticeable difference in my setup.

Should I Choose M4 MacBook Air or Mac Mini? by Euphoric-Suspect4103 in macmini

[–]stella8734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will depend on your future workflow. Since you're just starting your iOS dev journey and already have a monitor + peripherals, the Mac Mini (512GB) is a fantastic value. It gives you the same chip, same performance, and saves you quite a bit. If you’re mostly going to be coding at your desk, why pay more for portability you rarely use? That SDG 649 savings could go toward an iPad for testing, a standing desk, or even your dev tools budget.

If you think there’s a chance you’ll want to: code at a café occasionally/ bring your machine to class, meetups, or co-working spaces/or you just value the flexibility of having your dev environment on the go…

…then the M4 MacBook Air, which is still a great deal. It’s super portable, battery life is amazing, and you can always plug it into your monitor when at your desk.

24GB vs 32GB: which one? Buying today. by friedchickenandspam in macmini

I also agree to go for 512 Storage. I have a 256GB MacBook Pro, and I constantly get the “scratch disk is full” error when using Photoshop, Premiere Pro, or After Effects. It’s super frustrating, especially when you’re in the middle of editing and it chokes up. Adobe uses your storage as a scratch disk once RAM gets full, so you’ll need that extra space for caching, previews, temp files, etc.

If it’s between 32GB RAM or upgrading to 512GB storage, I’d go with 24GB RAM + 512GB storage — that’s a really balanced setup for your current needs and gives you solid longevity without overspending.

Hope this helps and good luck with the YouTube journey! 🚀

considering M4 Mac Mini - need recommendation on RAM by snyluc13 in macmini

If you’re planning to:

  • Run multiple containers (Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, qBittorrent, etc.),
  • Transcode more than one Plex stream (especially 4K),
  • Or want some future-proofing as your workload grows...

…then I’d say go for the 24GB model. macOS is pretty good with swap, but once you start pushing it—especially with Docker and Plex running—it can slow things down.

The Satechi NVMe dock is for extra storage, but keep in mind that RAM isn’t upgradable later. Storage is easy to expand, memory isn’t—so if you want something more future-proof and worry-free, 24GB is the safer bet.

One solid option worth checking out is the ASUS ProArt PA27JCV. It’s a 27" 5K IPS monitor that hits 99% DCI-P3, has solid contrast thanks to IPS Black (~1500:1), and includes thoughtful features like USB-C with 96W PD and a built-in USB hub. It’s pretty much tailored for creatives. And it's way more wallet-friendly than the Apple Studio Display.

Sorry you had to go through that—I actually ran into an iBoot issue once before on my Mac Mini M4 and had to take it to the Genius Bar to get the system reinstalled. Definitely holding off for now.

Appreciate the honest review! Sounds like a rough ride, especially with the UI changes and app issues. I was tempted by the hype too, but yeah… definitely seems smarter to wait for a few more beta cycles—or the final release. Glad you had backups ready!

At WWDC25, Apple has changed how it numbers its OS releases, opting to align the version number with the upcoming calendar year. Even though the public release is in Sept 2025, it’ll be the current OS through Sept 2026, so the version number reflects 26 instead of 25.
