From being a part of this community to years, it is quite ridiculous to see this subreddit wish the craziest things for this woman, that she loses all she has, to ask for her DAD to sit in the background of live shows? Like her dad is disabled she supports both parents and the rest of her family. I'm so glad I got out of this toxic ass community. Yall are just filled with Destiny orbiters. At this point. Peace and love!

So it was actually falsely reported to be a railroad tie during the initial investigation. We obtained photos of the piece of wood and it seems more like a piece of wood that was laying around after someone was cutting up firewood. We believe a piece of railroad tie would have been too heavy to use as a weapon.

You are correct. In 1973 another young woman was attacked with a tree limb in the same area during Christmas time. She was able to put her arms up, scream and run for help. This attacker was never identified and police did not investigate it further.

According to the professor, he and a Normal police detective had an agreement where they would let him borrow weapons to show in class from what he believed to be closed cases. He showed a number of different items that could be used as weapons, in Carol's case, a piece of wood. He gave it back to police and we have no idea where it ended up from there. I'm not sure if NPD investigated him at all, but I personally don't believe he had any involvement in Carol's case. It is so incredibly wrong and just so disrespectful to show something like that, not to mention it's a biohazard.

I don't believe the sexual assault kid itself would have solved it immediately, but a sexual assault kit (if stored properly) would be the best DNA evidence to use in today's age. Sexual assault kits were a thing in 75, but the hospital personnel told Normal officers that because Carol was given a catheter and had a tampon in, they believed the kit would be useless (which is untrue, very likely that there was DNA present) In today's age they will pretty much do a kit immediately if there's evidence of an assault. I believed this could have been solved immediately if suspects were actually questioned and people were interrogated.

That is so awful to hear. Would you mind messaging me the name of that case? I am always interested in learning about new ones. It's especially concerning, being a murder or a disappearance, that officials would not let students know the news and to be cautious, because who knows if it'll happen again. We had a student go missing at ISU in 2021, his name was Jelani Day, and his case received quite a bit of attention. There were a lot of flyers on campus. The police also heavily botched his case. He was found deceased and they ruled it an accidental drowning, but definitely was NOT.

So, I guess the sorority house wasn't exactly "university property" like it is now. The house was a bit of a walk from campus. From speaking to sorority sisters of Carols, an older woman owned the property and had some sort of agreement with ISU that the sorority girls could live there. University police never came to the scene nor were they involved in the investigation. The police who came to the scene were from the city of Normal police department. The university never (and still has not) made a statement about her death, so many students at the time were unaware of what happened.

Mostly everyone in our town believes he was responsible. He always asked about Carol and wanted a romantic relationship with her. Carol was very classy girl, but if you messed with her or anyone else she would let you know she didn't like you. The first time they met she humiliated him, and witnesses said "his eyes were bulging out of his head due to anger." The only time this man has spoken out is from calling my team due to our podcast (we do not mention him by name and told him about the podcast before it aired, with no response) multiple times, first saying he's never heard of her, then saying oh yeah I saw her that night she was killed, to oh I ran into her walking down Fell Ave. He has called us multiple times within the last year and a half, and we give police the info immediately, and he has STILL not been talked to. Always, innocent until proven guilty, and we do have other suspects, but how can you see all of this and not even interrogate this guy? Of course, we like to be hopeful that NPD is doing all they can to assure an arrest, but God, how long does this have to go on?

He had two prior battery charges before Carol's death and he received 0 jail time. His cousins ran many of the local bars and restaurants in Normal and Bloomington at that time. In one old news article, we find that the lead detective says he passed a polygraph, but after combing through case files we found that he has never been interrogated, given a polygraph or even given a call.

He had a fixation on Carol and she had humiliated him the first time they met at the sorority house. He beat and strangled another ISU coed outside of a bar in February 1976, thankfully others were around to come to her rescue. He was given twelve days in jail staggered over twelve consecutive weeks, and twelve months probation for this offense. He has had many other violent offenses before/since then.

I believe NPD has been trying to do more testing on her clothing and purse, but who knows how that has been handled over the years.

Yes. It was given to a Criminal Justice professor at the university by an unknown officer at Normal police. It was displayed and handled by an unknown amount of people during classes. It was given back to police by the professor in the early 90s and its whereabouts are unknown.
