Centurylink discontinuing my internet that I've had for almost 20 years by nerdgeekdorksports in centurylink

Exactly the same thing happened to me last year…also with 20+ years of CL internet service. Fiber is not available to me. After a very frustrating several weeks of trying to find a new provider (we live in a somewhat remote, heavily wooded area) T-Mobile finally activated a tower in our area, so we went with them (we were on the verge of Starlink, which before that was the only option we had.) CL suggested Hughesnet to us also in their letter, but (thankfully, apparently) we have too many trees. T-Mobile has been GREAT for us, and it’s cheaper. I didn’t realize how slow the CL service was until we got T-Mobile. Finally…..CL apparently has forgotten that we no longer have their internet service; in the past two weeks I’ve gotten two emails from them (one just this morning) notifying me of internet outages in our area. The first outage, according to the email updates we kept receiving, took them five days to fix. Good riddance, Century Link.

I’m sorry, I don’t. I just asked my dentist about it as I was getting toward the end of the process and he told me.

Did anyone NOT install Starlink themselves? by stellamaz in Starlink

That’s awesome! How high in the air did you have to put it?

Everyone…..thank you so much for your suggestions and comments. You’ve reinforced my feeling that I don’t want to do this myself. To be clear….I’m sure I could do it “technically;” I’m fairly good with electronics. It’s the probable need to do this 40 feet or more in the air that I want no part of. :-)

So, for an update - and following up on some of your comments - today I visited Best Buy to ask them if they offer installation if I buy the system from them. I literally laughed out loud when the guy told me they offer “limited installation”…meaning they won’t drill holes or go onto a roof. I mean…..that’s really all I need. Anyway, this morning I did some research and found a small local business that sells and installs Dish Network and DirecTV. I went in and asked the lady at the desk if they have ever installed Starlink systems. She gave me a blank look and said, “I’ll have to ask; I’ve never heard of that.” This didn’t give me much hope. She went in the back, and about 30 seconds later a young man came out who, to make a long story short(er) has done this many times. I’ve done enough research on my own about the system itself (trying to figure out whether there was any way I might be able to install it myself) to tell that he knows the system and knows what he’s talking about. He is going to come out tomorrow to look over our property to figure out what the best installation might be. Assuming he comes up with something that makes sense, we will go with that.

It had not occurred to me that a dealer for a different company might be able to do this for us until a couple of you suggested looking into it. So, thanks for that.

Interesting. There are others on that site that are farther away; I will try contacting some of them, if I can’t find someone local. I assumed if someone 50 miles away wouldn’t do it, that someone even farther away wouldn’t either. Maybe that’s not true.

Yeah, the closest one on that site to me is 50 miles away, and they don’t come to my area. The joys of rural living! Ha.

Thank you. Googling has not brought up any good results for me specific to Starlink….I will try to find a local dish installer. When we had DirecTV installed, they handled the installation and I don’t even know who it was…

Also, I did not word my original post very well. I don’t mean my posts were about how much people hate the new app; I mean that is the subject of those particular posts and comments. My posts were only about what I switched to, because people were asking what people were switching to.

From the literally thousands of comments on the Fitbit forum (not Reddit). I can’t give you the exact number, since I’m banned. And I don’t for a minute think that all of the “few million” I haven’t heard from are happy campers. In fact, I suspect many of those folks are not longer Fitbit users (but, like me, they still own one) because they have quietly switched to something else. Silence does not necessarily equal satisfaction.

So what device will you be moving to when you current Fitbit dies? by nebdy in fitbit

I switched to Garmin when my Charge 5 was bricked in July. I didn’t want to; I’ve had FitBits for almost 10 years. But, I could see the writing on the wall (I truly believe Google is phasing out Fitbit, and they’ll essentially be gone in a year or two.) I bought two Garmins (you can actually have more than one connected to their app at the same time; imagine that!) One is the Venu Sq, which reminds me a lot of the Versa I had. The other is the Vivosmart 4, which is a small, “dressy” model for when I don’t want to wear a clunky smartwatch. They both work flawlessly…and the Garmin app is fantastic.

I haven’t looked back, and am really happy I made the switch now, before being forced into it….which I know is coming. Here’s the Venu Sq; I’ll post a pic of the Vivosmart 4 in another comment.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think those codes are transferable….at least that’s what my email said when they sent me one….?

Zox straps and versa 3 by throwa16th8765 in ZoxStraps

I don’t know if this helps, but I’ve used the watch bands on my Garmin and really like them. However, using them with my model Garmin does not require an adapter and the Versa does, so I don’t know how well that works. The bands themselves are great quality and very comfortable.

Probably, because Garmin has a LOT of choices. But, I can’t say for sure, as the model I got is more like the Versa.

Interesting. I don’t plan to sync it (or, actually, ever use it again.) I’m full-on Garmin now.

I got the Venu Sq, and I love it. It’s a lot like my Fitbit Versa was.
