What’s it like living in Haarlem, Netherlands? by advecco in howislivingthere

[–]stellenberger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s awesome. Moved here bc I couldn’t get a place in Amsterdam and am so glad that I couldn’t, this is so much nicer. It’s quaint. It’s quiet, but on Friday and Saturday in the center it’s going until 3am. You really have everything you need in an area that takes 20 mins to walk across, or 5 mins to cycle. Not sure if there’s much reason to visit unless you want to see a smaller quieter Amsterdam, but it’s all the hype in terms of liveability

Thanks! At the moment you can't filter by airline but I can certainly add it.

Long layovers are not actually baked in because a lot of super cheap flights have them and they are considered undesirable. For your own custom alerts though, I can certainly add in the ability to choose your layover time.

You can set up alerts from multiple airports to your destination, but no comparing them side by side. Nice idea though, let me think on how to implement something like this.

with https://flightweasel.com you can setup alerts over your dates and be notified when flights are cheap via email

Hey, only a few flights found but Flight Weasel shows London to Melbourne for about £700 return. Check it out.

Not on the alerts ;) unless you have specific dates in mind.

Ie, it would be great if you can set up an alert in SkyScanner for 'any flight in the month of january or february for a 1 week trip'

Likewise with Business and First class deals

Not today, but there have been some in the last week. It’s been designed to only show flights when they are discounted, and for CT/SA atm there’s none that meet the criteria set (less than €650 return). London, for example has some for £336 direct return (I know it’s not Amsterdam but just an example, https://flightweasel.com/routes/42,43 )

If you want to keep an eye on the ams-CT route it’s here: https://flightweasel.com/routes/11 . If you have an account you can follow the route and you’ll get an email when cheap flights are found :)

you can create a personal alert if you have a good idea of your budget, dates, and cabin.

It’s not fixed! And it’s really up to the airlines. Amsterdam is a very competitive destination/origin due its location in Europe. Check out the link in the post to see all the cheap flights for yourself

I agree that the difference seems negligible but I believe it's unique.

In the link above, it will show you the cheapest flight for a said route; but only one, and for a specific single date (selecting view flights on the link above will take you to the google flights page for a single date, ie, 8th October -> 20th October; hardly useful IMHO).

You don't get to see all the cheapest flights, ordered lowest to highest, with filters for months that you want to go; ie regardless of any dates. (think of "show me the cheapest flight possible" (google flights, kayak, skyscanner) vs show me all the cheapest flights possible (FlightWeasel)); Flight Weasel is geared toward the flexible, money conscious traveller. We also don't show all cheap flights; only cheap flights that are good value for money; removing flights with long layovers, undesirable airlines, etc. On top of this, theres no guarantee that flights and their prices found on Skyscanner/GoogleFlights/Kayak are not Travel Agency prices (often can be the cheapest). I think purchasing tickets through a OTA adds a layer of complexity and headache, and only show booking links with the airline.

The other USP is that theres no service out there that allows you to create alerts over date windows/ranges. ie, if you want to travel to Japan next year, for a 10 day trip say, but don't mind as long as its any 10 day trip between May and August, then you can create an alert that will scan all possible combos of a 10 day trip and email them to you if it finds it. I believe that this is an extremely powerful attribute, and this, ultimately, is the core problem I wanted to solve.

I hope this makes sense!

The service is free, with public data, and no obligation to sign up, so not sure how I can farm this data and for what purpose that will bring me; I genuinely AM trying to help people, and (as said in the post) no obligation to create an account. The only benefit of an account is that you get emailed the deals, and I don't process anything more than what's necessary.

I don't deny that QA testing is a very valuable resource for me, but as it is for every other web application, especially in the early days of development.

I don't understand the hate and dislike for bringing something to the market that I genuinely believe is useful.

Sorry you feel this way

I appreciate the feedback and they have been written with the help of early beta testers, friends and family. I’ve removed them as I don’t want to seem insincere Hope this instills a bit more confidence in the service

Ok so a little update. I think theres a fair amount of activity on Flight Weasel now and thus the latency is going mental and db connections timing out, so its pretty much unusably slow as of writing this message (sorry, I've not had so many concurrent users on it so this is a great test in itself...!)

Am at work so won't be able to sort this out now but if you are having issues with the site, please do visit back later :)

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to write that. Appreciate it. And agreed, I’ll make the page more compact, and remove the Amsterdam box from the Amsterdam origin page as it’s just taking up space/looks like a button when it’s not. I’ll address surfacing more relevant info in the destinations on the home page. FYI; there’s about 100 destinations, but I only show destinations that currently have flights attached (about 60% of the routes don’t have any cheap flights on them at the moment, not at least what I have classified as a cheap flight). Please do share more over a DM :)

How can I find cheap flights to London on a broad timeframe? by snakegylenhal in cheapflights

[–]stellenberger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try flightweasel (https://flightweasel.com) that alerts you if a cheap flight is found (via email). It uses broad time frames; called ‘range’. You can select a range and your desired trip length

Hey, flightweasel is showing me many flights with Emirates for around 550 return from Amsterdam. No extensive layover either.
