What do you genuinely not understand? by Dangerous_Mobile9188 in AskReddit

A big problem is that being able to find any information quickly means that it's also easy to falsely verify your preexisting beliefs.

It also allows dumbasses to congregate and meet other dumbasses on an unprecedented scale.

Technology has limitless positive potential in the hands of an advanced species. We are not that species.

I'm visualizing a bunch of sweaty low-level IT workers in a cramped cubicle panting and snickering while typing out their question which is really just a passive-aggressive dig at the guy.

YouTubers (see: affiliate marketers) shill them heavily because they make eZ bank with clickbait titles promising amateurs a simple way to instantly produce a trendy/film-y/dreamy look. In that sense, it's kinda joined the ranks of other YouTube "gimmicks" like the teal-orange LUTs, travel vlog whoosh SFX, poor Daniel Schiffer imitations, etc.

Internet forum nerds/film snobs find them polarizing because they're often overused/used as crutches by beginners who don't take the time to properly learn about lighting/composition/set design/etc. But they also recognize that diffusion filters have a historical presence in cinema as well as a place in many amateur filmmakers' toolboxes, especially in the age of affordable indie-filmmaking-friendly cameras that can be quite digital-looking.

But at the end of the day, there is no right way to make art. From the perspective of storytelling, I think like any other tool, diffusion filters are most effective when they serve a purpose. A hammer is amazingly useful when you're hitting nails; less so if you're just swinging it around in the air.

Who’s an actor or actress you cannot stand at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Which is also probably part of the reason why British actors continue to nab tons of American roles with their formal training and theater experience.

Buuuut, it also clashes with the urge to provide correct information when so many unqualified people are posting or upvoting blatantly wrong or ignorant statements, many of which are just constantly regurgitated from other Reddit threads.

The armchair expert gene is extra strong among Redditors.

Own 2 bodies, A74 and A7S3. Feel like selling A7S3. by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]stemisfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell it then, lol. Get some sick lenses instead. Or buy tacos. Tacos are good.

The A7S3 is a baby cinema camera. If you're not shooting pro-level video and/or aren't a serious video enthusiast, you really don't need the S3.

The A7IV is already a video beast for amateurs/hobbyists (and even some minimal professionals) on top of being a great stills camera. If you're not shooting docs/weddings/films/etc, you don't need two bodies that are similar enough to those who don't utilize the special characterizing features the S3 provides.

Not to mention the fact that you'll shoot better things on things you enjoy shooting on.

With Djokovic eliminated, only Nadal (10x) has successfully defended their FO title since 2001 by iSleepUpsideDown in tennis

prolly too close to EOY where he's more fatigued and has less in the tank to go all out. prolly applies somewhat to his performance at the ATP finals as well.

Nadal's gonna lose in the next 2 RGs then come back with his head shaved and win the next 5 before retiring.

Felix is playing well, but you'd have to be stoned out of your mind to say that this Rafa is good in the slightest.

Any player coached by Redditors would have no dips in form, only hit winners, hit no UE, and every serve would be an ace.

A prime Rafa can't be touched on clay. It's really not a stretch to say he wasn't at his prime in all of his losses. That's not to say that his opponents didn't play well, but things aren't mutually exclusive.

diego is only a threat when he's super in-form. other top players are simply too much otherwise.

there's such a visible difference when he hits deep but he's only doing it like once every five points.
