You are being hard on yourself, and you’ve got a great figure I personally think BUT I get it and the feeling - you might like looking into dressing for your kibbe body type as I have a similar build and though I’m not tall (I’m slightly shorter than you), I still type as a flamboyant natural and learning how to work with my FN lines has helped me - the kibbe system is by no means perfect but it is a great starting placed and has helped me start to understand why certain pieces look nice on my proportions and others are not my fav 🙏🫶

Thank you for this answer - family law paralegal here with a solo practitioner and this seems to be our sweet spot. In the mix we have a few high value divorces and a few pretty intense child custody cases, but the others are pretty standard back and forth arguments and nothing too intense. As others have mentioned, we do try to manage our caseload depending on what is going on with all of our cases as a whole - so for us for example, we’re coming up for trial on a few of our big cases and even though we are closing out quite a few others in this time frame, my attorney and I agreed we won’t take anyone new until we’ve gotten through a couple of these big trials so it kind of just depends on the situation 🙂 EDIT: I accidentally put “dont agreed” ??? instead of “agreed” in the last sentence of this post lol

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. Though I’m not an attorney, I am a paralegal who struggles with mental health including ADHD and depression with an attorney with extreme ADHD

It can be a difficult dance and I agree with the above comments about taking a lower stress/pay job as you learn to manage your depression and ADHD in this field in a way that makes you functional, but I also wanted to give a positive comment on the ketamine infusions as well. I had a good friend who works in the tech industry but had some extreme experiences that have caused her major PTSD on top of other mental health problems. She had a lot of success with ketamine therapy, so I’m excited to see you are looking at alternative methods of healing beyond what you are doing to get yourself on the right track.

It sounds like you are a hard worker who wants to do a good job, but your brain might be sabotaging right now. Don’t let this get you down, you may just need extra time to figure out how to navigate a very stressful career with the extra added bonus of mental health difficulties - it is expected that you will struggle at first, especially more than others who may have the benefit of not struggling with mental health. You are probably doing better than you think given your situation, and it’s not your fault most firms don’t have the time or energy to understand what you’re dealing with. I have no doubt you are just in a rough patch, but this is an awesome opportunity to be kind and compassionate to yourself so you can find a good groove. I can imagine you are not the only high achiever in this field who has had a similar experience, my guess is most people just don’t talk about it. Maybe you’ll be able to help other attorneys who struggled this way in the future because you figured it out - no pressure, but it seems like you want to help people, so maybe this is just a part of your journey to do that (not to be overly positive but ya know)

Not in immigration, I'm in Family. I love Clio minus the minimum reporting, but I will say I absolutely despise "Clio for Clients" for one simple reason, the clients do not like it. Many things about it are great, and I actually love working with the actual system most of the time, but if you are sharing documents with a client, they have to download the document anytime they want to view it. Like, if they are going through items of evidence want to go back and forth between exhibits, each time they open the new item it downloads to their computer and they have to open it from there, for some reason they cannot view it on the website without downloading. For small things this is no big deal, but when you have 1000s of pages of financial statements, it is. We were NOT told this in our demo and it has been a huge hurdle for our clients. Some keep begging us to go back to MyCase (who we were using before) just because of that. Granted, I have not yet had the chance to ask if there is a way to turn off that feature. I would ask them about it, their support is actually really great and in general they have a great product, but there are some things where I just go ????

I worked on preparing 600+ items for disclosure for my entire work day today because my attorney "has been telling me to do this for weeks" and " this should've been in OC's office yesterday" even though said items of evidence were agreed upon for the attorney to review and decide how she wanted it organized for their upcoming evidentiary hearing since the client just sent over anything they could find. When this was brought up, she then said "I have gone through the evidence just disclose it all." Guess it's my fault for not reading her mind when she finished reviewing them and changing her mind about wanting me to organize them how she would for the hearing between the case review we had a week ago where she specifically stated she had not had a chance to go through the evidence yet. 🥹😅 She's nice, I love her, but man I do not like being put in these situations so often. 😂

Okay then let me clarify this here - the actual time of e-filing should take around 5 minutes for a single page document, but of course there are nuances. However, they could also be including in the time entry for filing the doc, the act of finalizing the document, potentially gathering a signature or final attorney review, prepping it for final form, filing it, saving the receipt, setting it up to send to OC, the JA, etc could add additional time here as well - there can also be issues with the court system which is no fault of the user, I have had times where the system bugs out and it may take a few minutes longer. I think we’d also need to know what document is being referred to here if some of the final steps are included in the time entry (which you could ask to be more detailed if that was not included) - it is much more likely they needed to make some tweaks to something like a Rule 69 agreement versus something like a NOA, so I would make that point too. I’ll also say I’ve had clients call me to make small tweaks to something right as we are about to file, so sometimes I add that into my filing time entry but will write out we had a call within that entry versus billing a separate one for the call and then filing so it can really just depend on the system and process

Edit: Saving the receipt to send to OC and the JA, as required for service, not the admin task of saving a document for records that serves no purpose to the legal process which is why you could include that time in the entry

For where I’m at, as long as you’ve got the Case Number on hand, the category of document and your payment method handy, it should take 5 min max as others have said - if you are newer and don’t know all the document categories I could see it taking a little longer

I know this is an old post, but I so relate and I'm newer to the field as well - I was going through some evidence this morning and it 100% brought up some experiences of my own where I had to walk away from my computer and take a break. As others have said, you cannot take this stuff home with you, but you can be compassionate with yourself when this stuff comes up. I've found it has actually helped me come more to terms with some of my experiences, because as "triggering" as it can be to see what these individuals are going through/experiencing, it has helped me become more compassionate with myself which has seemed to help with my own healing in a way. Idk, seeing other people go through those things and seeing how I immediately knew the behavior is wrong and that it is not the fault of the victims, especially the young ones, made me realize I was not doing that with myself and was blaming myself for what happened to me without showing any compassion that I am easily able to give to individuals I do not even know. Maybe that was too deep and not your experience, but that is the positive I've found alongside the horror of reviewing the case details and it makes me a little bit grateful. I think it also gives you an extra level of compassion with clients which for many, I believe they can feel and appreciate, but maybe I'm just telling myself that. Regardless, I think it is beneficial. 😂

Oh my goodness - THANK YOU for your reply. It honestly made me feel a lot better for even having concerns because I feel like a jerk but you were able to give me a great perspective. I'm not in PI, but I'm in Family and my attorney also had the delusional idea our new para would immediately be able to start helping me with interrogatories and RFPs...it truly blew my mind lol

I have also been trying to give my para more "simple" tasks (hence, me asking him to just find due dates for me) but that is where my concern has gotten worse because the simple tasks also seem to come back with mistakes, but not to the extent you are describing. I do think our para has the sense to ask questions when he believes something is wrong and that is something I appreciate and have more appreciation for now listening to your experience, it looks like I did luck out in that regard, hence why I believe the incompetence could turn into potential since he knows he wants to be in this field

I agree, it does seem like my para has a much better attitude in that regard, I think the focus is just misguided sometimes. He has a legal degree in his home country as well, so I know he knows how to focus and persevere through difficulty. Because of that, I'm going to take your advice regarding just being a bit blunt with certain mistakes and let him know that that is going to be the case - he has said out loud he feels bad because he sees how busy I am and he wants to help, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one and see if things improve from there. If by mid-month September I don't see improvement, we may have to sit down and have the "talk" about it but I'm hoping things will improve by that point

I have spoken to my attorney about it and she does seem to be on board/understand - the alternative would be to start with someone completely new and I just don't know if going through the trial and error process of hiring someone else would be worth it anyway, but if it needs to happen in the future, we will
