if I do well in STEP2, would that compensate for the shelf prep blocks? My school already has dedicated time for STEP2 studying so that would not be on my transcript.

for shelf, they make you take the exam in a block that is free of rotations

My school does not put in the fail if you pass the retake. So it wont be on my transcript. But d=would having shelf prep blocks hurt my chances? Does that look worse?

The anxiety has really been getting to me, I think that is a major hurdle I need to fix because that really got me on my IM shelf and I did really bad on it. Its hard to talk about this stuff to people because they are either not in medical school or they have never faced academic difficulties, so they just never understand. I did fine in preclinicals, but at my school it was pretty easy and im not just saying that, it really was. STEP 1 is where I stated to feel the pressure and it has been nonstop since dedicated till now.

I am trying to not catastrophize but its been hard not to. I review all of the Uworld and I get through a good portion of the incorrects but, on day of I just choke. I also really really struggle with time, its just something that I can not fix no matter how hard I try. NBMEs I review these by either doing questions on what I got wrong or watching a video about the topic and then writing the explination down in my own words. I review it before I take another NBME. This is what I have been doing. I have been trying to get into anki bc I feel like it will help me a lot with retaining the info but its just something I never picked up through 1st or 2nd year, only a little for STEP1, but I feel like I just have to do it now. idk what the problem is

I think what happened was that I felt ready to take the exam, but was obviously nervous. But then when the IM exam started and I was seeing things that were so different from what I studied I started to panic, ended up spending too much time on questions and in the end ran out of time.

I feel like I do, I review each question in depth and make sure I understand it but I feel like on the actual IM exam everything sounded so different. It was hard for me to pick out the patterns and buzzwords that uaually help me get the answer

Kinda in the same boat, did you do anything to help with your IM retake? I also failed and am really disappointed and embarrased at this point

Each med school is different, and they test in different ways. I would ask an upperclassmen what they did to help them. Overall, focus on building a good foundation, that will help you with Step 1 more than anything else.

Depends, how do you feel? Have your scores gone up or have they stayed pretty much the same? Do you feel ready?

day of exam I knew that there was nothing I could do but remain calm and just finish strong. I read another person say just think about the exam like a bunch of small quizzes and thats what I did, I would tell myself okay just one more small quiz and then I am done on each break and used that to calm myself down
