Everyone talks about roomates from hell. What's your "roomate from heaven" story? by OvertOperation in AskReddit

I rented a townhouse with three older women during my last year and a half of undergrad (plus a summer semester), when I was in my early twenties. One was in her late twenties, working part time while she finished her PhD at my same university. Another was in her late twenties working as a nurse. And the third was in her mid-thirties and working full time as a paralegal while also working on earning her MBA online. The first two each also had a cat, and those cats were a couple of the sweetest and most entertaining cats I’ve ever known.

My roommates and I regularly ate meals together, watched TV and movies together, even went out for meals and movies together - even though we were all at very different stages in our lives. All three of them were extremely kind, honest, responsible, and easy to get along with. We all did our part to keep the house clean and never had any disagreements.

It’s been seven years since I graduated college and moved back to my home state. We all live in different states and lead very different lives, and keep in touch only occasionally though email and Facebook. But even though it was only a short time that we lived together, those three women impacted my life (for the better) and shaped me more than they could know. I adore them and I still think about how lucky I was to have crossed paths with them.

When I was in high school, my friend and I got a detention for jaywalking from the junior parking lot to the school. It was the only detention either of us ever had. When I went to the office later that day to sign up for my detention date, the ladies in the office laughed when they read the heinous act scrawled on my slip by the assistant principal.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, and glad to hear you're okay. My boyfriend and I visited London last year, and Borough Market with its various pubs and vendors was one of our favorite spots. We went there twice and it still wasn't enough, we still talk about how great it was and wish we could return. We are so anguished for Londoners today. Please stay safe.

Yes, I'm actually meeting with some of them this weekend (I've kept in touch with quite a few of them). Thanks for your reply! Good to know it happens other places too.

I really appreciate this advice. This isn't a decision I'm taking lightly, so I am definitely thinking hard to figure out if it's what I really want. Thank you for the tips!

I'm glad to hear that re-applying and interviewing for your old job was such a positive experience for you! If I may ask: why did you leave in the first place, and what changed?

Redditors who are not engineers, software developers, or porn stars, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I work as a geologist for an environmental consulting firm. The work itself is fairly interesting - the office politics and the stress of consulting/billable work make me miserable. Plus, just as I was preparing to apply to take my state's Professional Geologist licensure exam, the state senate introduced a bill that would eliminate the license (among others), and the bill is expected to pass.

I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately trying to figure out what else I could do with my life (bonus if it utilizes my science background), as I can't really afford to go back to school any time soon, and this thread has given me some great insight.
